Currently i have a 3.0 science GPA and a 3.4 overall GPA. im taking the PCAT in oct. and have microbiology and O chem this year. Ive done internships through the past few years at healthcare clinics(never employed, always volunteer). I am currently in a community college finishing my prereq's(if four year counts more?). I've also done quite a bit of extra-curricular stuff. Started studying for the PCAT about 2 weeks ago so i have about a solid 2 months. am i competitive?

Also, people who are familiar w/ the quarter system...is it rough to take 3 science classes(Ochem, bio, physics(w/ lab))?

Which school do you go to? I'm guessing you go to a UC. I'd say it's doable, but personally for me I would do two of the three science classes plus one or two general ed classes.

The university I attend is on the quarter system, and yes...I'd say that load of 3 courses with labs would be a rigorous schedule, especially if you're taking more gen ed classes in addition. I've personally found that with that many classes, each with a lab, it gets confusing to keep track of when which labs are due, getting pre-labs done for each lab, etc.
It can be done, though. If you decide to do it, my best advice is to try not fall behind in any of the courses and to stay as organized as you can.
Your stats sound good, so just make sure you nail your personal statement and get great LORs to make your application stand out as much as you can. Good luck on the PCAT, I'm taking it in August as well.

I aggree, I think you are competetive. I attended a C.C. and had about the same GPAs as you and I was accepted this year. I worked as a tech and volunteered so I think that your volunteering time will help. I was accepted this year after a few months on an alternate list. Keep your spirits up and keep plugging along and if its what you want you will make it...

what types of extra-curriculars do you have? iam on a similar boat. but i already graduated from 4 year and I am taking more pre-reqs at a cc. the three science per quarter is def doable. if you are studying for pcat, i'd dedicate studying as a class, so study for pcat and 2 science and one general ed would be good. or even better, 2 science and pcat alone. <-- must be self motivated!

I took ochem, bio and physics (w/ lab) my soph year of college while tutoring for the campus tutoring service and did well. If you want to do well in these courses, be prepared to study lots and be somewhat anti-social. But try to have a study buddy or two to keep you motivated with studying these tough science courses.
