I've planned for my fall semester for my second year of college. These are the courses I've currently enrolled in:

BIOL 201- Principles of Biochemistry
BIOL 210- Microbiology
CHEM 231- Organic Chemistry
ECON 100- Intro to Economics
PSYC 111- Contemporary Psychology 1

For a total of 15 credits. Has anyone taken Biochemistry, Organic Chemistry, and Microbiology all in the same semester? If so, how was it? Would you recommend that I drop at least one of the above courses and enroll in another course?

Thanks.

I'm only taking two lab sciences this next semester, and the majority of my peers (non-pre-meds) are warning me against it. *shrugs* I envy you, though. The only Biochem class I could find at my University is a 500-level course!... Maybe I'm looking in the wrong place...

i think you might find biochem easier once you have taken o-chem, but since it appears to be a lower division class, maybe you'll be okay. There's going to be overlap, so don't worry too much about that.

Honestly, I think that's a fine courseload. If you think you can or can't do it, you're right.

Which organic chem are you taking, 1 or 2? My main concern here is that Biochem DOES build on orgo, specifically, on the 2nd part, so it may be difficult for you to succeed in biochem w/o completing orgo first. Of course, the material varies slightly among schools, and maybe your biochem prof thinks you will do just fine w/o orgo, but I would confirm it first.

Otherwise, do you have labs for all of them? I know I definitely would not recommend doing more than 2 labs per semester.

i agree. I think you should be able to handle those classes together. It will really test your time management skills.

No one can answer this question except you because this depends entirely on the individual.

I took orgo, physics, and biochem together and earned all A's and one A+ (ended up being my second best semester in college). Just the fact you ask this question leads me to think that you're not a science major since I can't imagine someone earning a degree in science without ever having to take 3 sciences in one semester. So if you're not use to such a workload, then it might be a good idea to cut out one of the science courses.

It depends on your college. If you go to a college where people study all the time and killing each other for grades...you might want to think twice. Gotta friend who attended his old college taking what you're taking and making all As while having lots of fun at the same time. However, when he transferred to a competitive college, he didn't do very well....and he took only 1 science class. Good luck

Does not sound bad at all, this should be a try tht u can conclude ur ablities frm, am a science major and take at least 5 all science classes 300+ a semester. ever since my sophmore year (started to pay in state tuition) i never took below 19 credits a semester and at least 5 out of the 6-7 classes i take must be science. Its a lot of hard work may be no life but it comes with dark sides, for me last semester when I took 23 creidts of Geneitcs, biochem 400levle, popbio, 2 reserach labs, o-chem lab, population bio, and its lab, religon and universal honors course, it was crzy as hell tht i had no time to put on MCATs which lead me to perform very poorly, so if u dn't hav mcat to take, go ahead it doesn't sound too bad. YOu might wonder wat my grades were in all thouse classes, all A's got a B in a one crdits class, which makes me point out another thing, if this hurts ur GPA this semester, dn't do it again, u don't want to mess up ur GPA, GOod luck

Yes, I am taking Orgo 1 in the fall semester. And all of the science courses have labs.

On another note, in my college (actually a University-college), the second year organic chemistry courses are worth only 3 credits including lab. I thought this was kinda odd because I've heard most universities count their second year organic courses as 4 credit courses.

Are you double major? I have not seen any major require that much science in one semester. The closest I've seen is my next semester with biochem, analytical chem, pchem, and microbio. The research was something you opted to do, I'm assuming.

To the OP, you'll be fine. Get your time management skills ready.

This thread is a duplicate. Someone is going to close either one or the other.

I took Biochem, Orgo, Micro, Cell Bio and Physiology all in one semester --- I definately think that you should be able to handle it.

Yes I am a double major and research is not an option, i consider it an opportiuniy, to graduate with honors in chem I have to hav 2 full years of research and senior theisis and defence to graduate. FOr my bio major, i have to do research for credits and preq, so yea hope tht ans ur quesiton and ur schedule doesn't sound too bad, i love pchem, and analytical chem, micro in fall all the best..

More power to you; I have not heard of anyone at my university do that and do it well.
