Just wanted some opinions on ranking Henry Ford above CCF. I know on paper CCF > HF, but please hear me out. No location preference, just solely want the program that will make me a better radiologist.

HF - residents seemed much more cohesive and happy, Spickler has been there for a long time and seems like a baller, faculty seem very involved in teaching

CCF - obviously more pathology, residents didn't seem happy/cohesive, attendings not focused on teaching?, less perks than HF, only one reseach conference funded per year?, I keep hearing not so great things about the PD

Basically, I feel as though despite more pathology at CCF, the teaching at HF would be better and therefore HF may make you a better radiologist. Plus, an experienced PD and better support system within the residency. Am I crazy?

No you're not crazy. It sounds like HF would be a better fit for you and that you'd be happier there. 4 years is a long time to be miserable.

First of all, you're not crazy. You should trust your "feel" of any place and no one would fault you for picking a place because of that.

That being said, let's look at these two places...

Facts:
- Both are similar weather
- Both have similar cost of living
- CCF has a national name and prestige attached to that when you speak with doctors/patients/etc.
- CCF has more volume/pathology than just about any rads programs
- HF is a solid program but also not university affiliated

Opinions:
- CCF residents dont get along and HF residents are happy and cohesive
- CCF PD is "not so great"
- Viewbox teaching is better at HF

I would choose CCF since the things you don't like may change or really have nothing to do with the training. But, that's just me. Henry Ford is a good program overall as well and you'd get good training at both places.

Dear OP,

1. You are crazy.
2. See post above this in regards to justifying 1.

To everyone else,
The residency program rumor mill always spins hot in the few days before rank lists. Treat with caution.

Cheers and good luck to all.
