I would like to earn a pharmD but think my early years of undergrad and age might be restrictive. I would like to know what schools are more open to applicants who are "out of the box". Also, I would like to know if some schools focus more on research than others.
My gpa is a 2.5;however my in major is a 3.4 (B.S. Biochem),
I have a authorship in the journal of biochemistry, and a few years of work experience. Some of my course work was completed more than 10 years ago which violates the prerequisites for some schools. I have begun to study for the pcat and dont think it will be that difficult to get a competitive score.
Ive also found a volunteer position in a local hospital pharmacy.

If anyone has tackled similar circumstances I would love to hear about your experiences. Also, what schools are more lenient in their decision making admissions process.

Thanks!

Your not delusional. Remember that you have to gear your application to the type of applicant that you are. Try to find schools that accept the PCAT assuming that you can score well like you say. Also focus on the schools that are more interested in Pre-pharmacy requirements rather than cumulative GPA. Remember to check your prereqs as some schools want classes done within the last 5 years. A volunteer is good, so in your personal statements focus on what you have done there to realize that pharmacy is the career for you.
Be passionate about what you do, this application process is good at destroying confidence and raising doubt.

My quick advice, your undergraduate was the past, focus on what you do now, how you realized pharmacy was for you and remain positive.

Good Luck and don't underestimate the PCAT. You get two kinds of people taking the test. The ones who are taking it for the first time and those who have dedicated their lives to it. Be the latter, you'll get a more consistant score.

I think my scores are fairly encouraging however I have an additional question/problem. In order to get into Pharm school i would need about two semesters of prereqs. I have been studying chinese for the past two years now, thus i would need to drop my Chinese studies to pursue the pharmD avenue. also i cant imagine living full time in america anymore. Does anyone know if there is a future for a chinese/english speaking pharmD
(in china not america or at least 1/2 time in china). Is there anyone that has experience with working for the big pharm companies abroad i would love to hear about it.

Thank you in advance

Check out this thread. It is a thread discussing people going back to school later in life. I went back to school to get my pre-reqs complete for a PharmD degree after having a career and apparently many others have too.

I don't know if there are any answers to which schools are more favorable but there are some interesting stories in the thread. I Hope it helps

you can't imagine living in america full time? Why bother then? The PharmD degree is useless internationally and no there isn't an english/chinese program. You can probably get a pharmacy degree in china tho.

you could do the international program
