I did a special master's program and F'ed up bad. Ended with a 3.4 GPA. Had to retake a class. Have very low college GPA (2.9). Am I done for? Got good MCAT, 95 percentile.
so 2.9 ugrad to 3.4 masters with a ~516 MCAT
what state? would you be willing to retake any pre-reqs to raise GPA
so it depends on your state; did you go to an elite undergraduate? why the low grades?I did retake pre-reqs, and got a few B's.
With those numbers I would say you should be competitive for some DOs if you apply now and might have a chance at your state MDs. Some schools use the cGPA to screen so you might want to do research.
His GPA is incredibly low and the SMP of a 3.4 is not stellar. For most MD schools a 3.4 is low and that is from SMP, his actual cGPA is 2.9 which is likely what a lot of schools will look at. For DO that is too low, but the MCAT might be able to help counter it.With a 516 he should be competitive for most MD schools, assuming good ec

Are you a Texas resident? If so, I think your chances might be a bit better. Start with TCOM and also apply to all of your state MD schools.Depression, ADHD, I would say. Severe social isolation, I had no friends at all, literally...No it was a state school, I'm in New Mexico, but currently work in Texas, thank you all.

Don't beat yourself up man, you killed your MCAT which is a stellar accomplishment. That score should be able to help overcome your cGPA, your SMP while not great, is not a red flag. I have seen people here kicked out or just failing out, that would be bad. Best of luck 🙂Yes, I think texas, thank you, I will do. Oh well, should not have done smp, made a lot of mistakes in life

Chances best with your state MD school, and DO schools if you apply broadly. Despite your high MCAT, my school might pass on you. AZCOM will probably take you.I did a special master's program and F'ed up bad. Ended with a 3.4 GPA. Had to retake a class. Have very low college GPA (2.9). Am I done for? A single metric like that, even stellar, will not work for OP.With a 516 he should be competitive for most MD schools, assuming good ec

Would he be fine for DO ( I'm curious).A single metric like that, even stellar, will not work for OP.

I have yet to hear from any SDNer who reinvented themselves with a pattern like yours, for MD.
I have several Adcom colleagues who would swoon with that MCAT score, but from our own experience, people who struggle with an SMP (as did OP) struggle in our program.Would he be fine for DO ( I'm curious).

So SMP performance outweighs MCAT score?
SDNers are strongly advised not to have a moth-like starry-eyed infatuation with high MCATs alone. That's another way of saying "yes". Here you have someone who was in a an audition for med school. They flubbed their lines. So SMP performance outweighs MCAT score?
The wise Doktermom gets it!I'd suspect it's more a case of any one negative being enough to call the other positives into question. Succeeding in an SMP can support the contention that "My undergrad GPA (or MCAT -- pick one) is not indicative of what I can do in -- see?" The trouble here is that the OP was trying to prove that his undergrad GPA was not accurate -- yet didn't really prove that...

Again, we and others have learned the hard way that students who do poorly in an SMP struggle in med school...to the point of failing COMLEX and/or having to repeat OMSI.
