Well I graduated with a Bio degree but my GPA is 2.5 which is extremely low. But since then, I am doing my post-bac at a different school and have retaken all of my bio classes except for bio I,II and have a 3.5 GPA ~55-60 credits. Other then doing real well on DAT what else should I do?

I also have ~350 hours of shadowing and 3 years of HIV/AIDS research.

WOW - great job at your new school!

I know that some ad comms love to look for trends in grades - from a 2.5 undergrad to a 3.5 your last 55-60 credits will NOT be overlooked (at least I don't think so).

YOU PRETTY MUCH GOT IT - 'doing real well on DAT' - that just about sums it up - GO FOR IT!!!

I hope so, but damn my old transcript looks horrible. I am tempted if I dont get in this year to just redo my basics too, just to have one clean transcript. But more likely I will get a masters in public health and go for a Ph.D. in biostats if I dont get in '06 or '07.

sounds like you're doing everything right to try to turn your chances around, keep it up 👍

yes chronarch,
congrats on taking the initiative and having some faith in yourself, someting that you may notice many others lack. this spark will open the way to all your dreams! best of luck on the dat:
-don't put your life on hold for anything, if for any reason you don't get in for any number of years ahead, keep making yourself better and better so that you have an incredible story to write on your personal letter!

keep yourself busy with school and work and everything else will fall into place. if you don't have direction, i suggest looking into some master's programs that may have financial incentives. also, mph programs look very good and you can get into such a program at some really killer schools (eg univ tennessee knoxville)

best of luck and enjoy the road less travelled!

I envy you chronarch - you seem to have a 'fan base' here at SDN, nobody hesitates to answer your questions - but I just started a thread - not too long ago, WITH ZERO RESPONSES!

I also envy you for your drive! The way you fought back from adversity to achieve a 3.5 GPA - that is very comendable! Your desire to pursue dentistry shines through your OP, and I hope that it will shine through to the admissions commitee! Best Of Luck, my friend.

For real there is nothing to be envious about, I been in school for a long time and just wasted time and money. I was the party type and really never studied until the night of a test. So i decided it was time to move away from my friends and start all over. Trust me you look like a jackass when both of your little bro's are in med school and here I am still retaking classes

At least you are retaking them versus still partying, and I don't see any shame in that! Keep up the good work!
