Hey all, I am thinking about becoming a doctor someday. I am a sophomore at URI. My cumulative gpa is about a 3.4 right now. The problem is, I have 3 Cs in science courses right now: BIO 101, CHM 101, and Organic Chem 1 (C+). I am retaking chem 101 right now. If i retake the organic chem and bio 101, will med schools be glad to see that I am determined enough to retake classes? The Cs in BIO 101 and CHM 101 were my first semester in college and I had a tough time adjusting to the work load. The Organic chem was just me not studying enough, as it is a hard class. What do you guys think? Thanks...

I think that repeating the classes is the right choice that will redeem your academic record and also make it more likely you'll do well on the MCAT since you'll gain a better understanding of the material. Get As, even if it means taking a lower course load so you can concentrate better on each class.

Out of curiosity, how did you do in the second portion of each class? Is it fair to argue that As in the second portion of each class will help dissuade any doubts in Adcom's eyes?

For many med schools, that is another way to redeem a C in the first class of a series. Retaking the class is a better option if you didn't understand it well in the first place, to assure a good MCAT score.
