I just got the money today to register for the subject test. I tried to register about 5 minutes ago and the next test date that you can register for is December 2nd. Meaning that the scores would not get to the schools until January 7th when I have deadlines that are December 15th. I feel like such an idiot. I have thought of literally everything else but not this. Obviously there would be registration dealines, I've just been so scatter brained lately. Does anyone know if there is any way for me to still get into the November 4th test? What happens if I can't? Should I even apply to the schools with the December 15th deadline? I feel like i've done all this work for nothing now. If I have all my other application material in early can I turn this in late? I will be willing to travel a few hours away just to take the test on the November 4th deadline. Any advice?

wow tough luck...i dont see how you can do anything else. how long are the GRE's valid for??

They are valid for 5 years. I don't know if I can try to be on standby for the november 4th test date. If worst comes to worst I'll just take it in december and I guess call ets and see if there is anything I can do. It seems if you are willing to pay more money you can get anything done. But any suggestions would be helpful

well do you HAVE to do it this year( well next year) or can you leave it,when you have more time to prepare your application?

There's no reason for guesswork. Get on the phone tomorrow and contact all the schools with Dec. 15 deadlines and find out if in fact the ETS score reporting date (Jan. 7) is an absolute disqualifier.

I have to do it this year. I can't believe that I let this happen. I am a *****. I have put so much preperation into this and to let something stupid like this happen is driving me crazy. I am so baffled.I guess the stress of it all just really got to me and made my mind stop working. I am praying that i can bribe ETS into letting me take it november 4th.

How many of the schools you're applying to require the subject test? Relatively few programs require the subject test, so make sure it's even necessary before you decide not to apply. Some schools don't require it, but may recommend it. I would go ahead and apply to those, because they may or may accept the scores late if it's not an absolute requirement. If the programs you're applying to do require the subject test then you may be out of luck for those schools, but as PsiKo said, don't guess. Call the programs and find out what the policy is.

To the best of my knowledge, none of the counseling psych PhD programs require the Subject Test. If the prospect of waiting another year is too much to bear, this could be your ticket.

One other thing PhDhopeful -- and do take this constructively -- is that I do think that putting up a confident front in the application process goes a long way. Looking at your posts, you appear very anxious, and say a lot of negative things about yourself...and although you may feel that way, that's not what departments want to hear from the people applying to them. I'm not advising you to be delusional, but rather to keep a balanced view -- focus on strengths, see weaknesses as correctable, and as far as possible avoid freaking out 🙂 Just my 2c.

Have you looked into standby? At my Psych GRE last year there were a good many available seats the day of the test. Everyone who was on standby got in, and there was still room.

GENIOUS!!! I knew that they offered standby for the general test but not the subject. I'll look into that. Thanks so much. I looked and 6 out of 8 of my schools require the subject test and I have put so much work into this year that I don't want to wait to apply! 😳 😳

well good luck! be sure to let us know what happened😀

Ok. So I called ETS and they said to show up at the testing site at 8:15 AM with a completed registration form and my check, they may or may not be able to get me in but I think its worth a shot.

Good Luck🙂 I found myself in a similar situation last year with the psych GRE. I decided to wait another year before applying and do not regret it one bit. More time to study helped my ace the Psych GRE and I got invaluable research experience resulting in three papers submitted for publication. So, if it doesn't work out this year, don't worry too much. As long as you keep moving forward in some way you'll just be a better applicant the following year.😉 Nonetheless, I'd surely follow psikos advice and make those calls!!!
