So I am going to submit my primary AAMCAS this Monday night (Labor Day). It doesn't really matter now either way, but I am curious to know because many people have been telling me both sides-- is this really late in the process? I have good grades and a high MCAT, so I didn't think getting my app in as early as possible was as much of a priority. Thanks for any insight (reassuring or not).

With the right stats (MCAT/GPA) time doesnt really matter. However, with average states, MCAT ~30-33 or so or GPA around 3.7, the later you apply the more of a disadvantage you will be at. I always felt that after mid-july would be considered 'late' and after august I was literally told that you would most likely be wait-listed since the limited number of spots more than likely will have been offered to other applicants that submitted earlier than you. Just remember there are LOTS of other ppl with REALLY good stats... enough to fill the 4-5 positions in MSTP that each school has. Even MD-only path has only about 100-200 spots depending on the school.

Good luck.

ps. by average stats, I am think more of the ppl that are accepted rather than applicants which would be lower.

Yes, I'd say a Sept. AMCAS submission qualifies as being "late." Some schools will stop accepting AMCAS next month already, so you're starting to get close to their deadlines. That being said, it's a little counterproductive to be worrying about it at this point. It's not like you can go back in time three months and submit your AMCAS in June! So submit it this weekend like you're planning, and then focus your effort on getting those secondaries done and completing your files everywhere ASAP. :luck: to you.

What about those of use with average stats who submitted a month ago but are still waiting for AMCAS verification??

The only thing you can do now is have your secondary essays and LORs ready to go so you can submit everything ASAP. It is getting late, but you can't change that now.

I agree with Q that you should just be looking forward! Turning in those secondaries is key. it doesn't matter how early your primary was submitted if you don't get your rec letters and secondaries in early too!

That being said, I don't think you will be too behind the game if you can get your recs/secondaries in. Some of my letters weren't sent out until mid-October, and I wasn't complete at any school until at least the end of this month (and some didn't complete until December and January..)

oh, but check the school's mstp-specfic deadlines because i think i submitted some late, and the school simply let me pay the secondary fee and didn't even consider me (or maybe they did but still didn't like me)
