Have you talked to the school about your concern? I'm sure they know more about it then we do.

I am in the process of completing my application to AZCOPT. If you wouldn't mind sharing this information, what was your GPA and breakdown of OAT scores for those of you who were granted an interview?

I am really excited about the potential opportunity at Midwestern and am crossing my fingers for a successful application!

I just got an interview invite last night. My overall gpa is 3.05 OAT: AA: 320 TS:350

Midwestern doesnt even have their clinical rotations set, nor do they have an acceptable faculty, and they are handing out rejections and placing people on the alternate list !?

wierd.

hey gochi, why are you saying that they do not have an acceptable faculty?

Last time I was there they had no worries about the faculty. Where did you get your info?

Would they tell you if they had 'concerns' about their school?

1)Can Midwestern guarantee they will receive full ACOE accreditation? If not, will they refund your tuition?
2)What if you cannot pass your licensing examination?
3)What type of rotations will Midwestern set up for you? It takes many years to perfect the relationships between optometry schools and rotation sites.
4)What type of facility and equipment will Midwestern have? Who is their patient base?
5)Where will this new faculty come from? (UIW, Midwestern, and Western Health Sci. University are all opening at the same time. Optometry is a small field, and it's very hard to find qualified ODs,PhDs to teach).
6)Since it's a private school, what are the tuition rates? It is possible to make a good living in optometry but not with a huge debt load (>150k needs reconsideration). Compare tuition at other schools.

I'm not trying to discourage you from attending or applying to those schools, but use critical thinking and reason as to why you would choose to attend a school that hasn't even built their clinic. You are doing the right thing by researching the field and reading optometry forums like SDN for more info.

90% of the people on this forum could answer those questions and realize they are at a loss, however, they would still go ahead and apply and accept the invite if one was given.
