I'll have my apps in by the end of this week. Do I have a chance though? Did anyone get in with below a 25 on the MCAT? I'm feeling hopeless right now. My GPA is a 3.56 and I have tons of ECs including a varsity sport, shadowing, volunteering and work experience. However, I've been working in a polymer lab for the past two years (since I graduated) and have had little experience since then in terms of volunteering or medicine.
I live in the south and I'm an east asian girl, not like that really helps with the whole minority thing, and I'll be applying to:
PCOM-ATLANTA
LECOM-BRADENTON
CCOM
MAYBE UNTHSC, NYCOM, AND TOURO
Do I even have a chance at these schools with my low MCAT?

If you have been accepted to a school and have a similar MCAT, please write me a message, I'll feel a whole lot better about applying....

Hi. I haven't been accepted, but wanted to let u know u are not alone! I too am in the process of applying to D.O. schools. I have a similar GPA and got a 25 on the MCAT. I am applying and taking my chances. I say if you want something bad enough go for it. And since you do have all the clinical/volunteering experience from before atleast it shows you have been interested in medicine for a while and its not just something that you decided to try out. I too have been doing research for the past 3 years since graduating, nothing clinical at all for the past 2 unfortunately. HOwever, i just started a new volunteer position with an Inpatient pediatrics unit and can't believe i didn't do it sooner! So i say its never too late to start some volunteering, and i'm sure you'll enjoy it. It certainly is a great change from lab research and makes me realize everyday how important becoming a DO is to me. Anyway, thats my take. Hopefully some people with similar stats that have been accepted will write back. I'm interested to hear also...but I wanted to reply to your post and say GO FOR IT! If you really want to be in Osteopathic Med. 😀

DO schools accept students with MCAT scores around 25. You should be fine with that GPA and volunteer work. Good luck

I was accepted to LECOM-B and declined my interview offer at TUCOM with an MCAT lower than yours. D.O. schools will look at more than just your MCAT scores, they look at the whole person. If I were you though, I would try to get in some shadowing (particularly D.O.s) before you send in your secondary apps, you can include it on them.

Stop worrying so much, you'll drive yourself crazy.
Best of luck to you!!!

Doc,
You were accepted to LECOM-B, is that Bradenton? That's the one that just opened right? Ahhh!!! This is so stressful, I'll keep you updated, maybe I'll get lucky. I'll be shadowing a DO on August 6th. I also have another question, how do you get time in for volunteering when you have a 40/wk job?

Right, LECOMB is Bradenton. It did just open, we are in the first class down there. It is stressful, but you'll be ok. Once you're accepted, the stress level drops for a few days, then raises way up when the time comes to make arrangements for the move and the beginning on classes. Also, the time you spend volunteering while working 40+ hours a week is what will impress the admissions committees. Make time for it whenever possible, it'll pay off 10 fold.

I was accepted with <25 to three of the four schools I applied to. Accepted at UNE, UHS (KCUMB) and DMU. Was not accepted at PCSOM. Attending DMU....if you have any other questions PM me.

Your GPA and MCAT are right at about the average for matriculants. You have no chance at all (sarcasm). Why are you even asking when you know you are competitve with scores right at the average for matriculants? 🙄 Anyway, good luck with your applications 👍

Biosail, you have a decent chance. I think you should add more schools to increase your chances. Better to be safe than sorry.
