Hey all,
Really appreciate your advice with this one...

I started my academic career rocky but shaped up a bit during my junior and senior years. My oGPA and sGPA are ~3.45-3.55, and taking DAT in mid August.

Reading all these threads on here really freaked me out about applying early, especially since I am getting a committee letter from my school and they won't begin sending them out until mid July. My reasoning for thinking it would be ok to take the DAT so late is because the committee letter won't complete my application until late, but now that I'm reading these threads about applying super early, I'm getting anxious.

Also does anyone know how much weight an Ivy undergraduate degree carries in the admissions process? I'm not expecting it to open huge doors for me, but any little bump would be nice considering my stats aren't stellar.

You are not that late. Get started on your application right away and send it your transcript as soon as possible, since verifying GPA can take a while at this point. It usually takes schools 2-3 weeks to receive your official DAT score, so if you apply right now your application should be complete and ready to go at school by late August/early September or so.

To answer your second question, an Ivy undergrad degree would definitely add some weight to your application, but it will not be a deal breaker. Your GPA is competitive as well so you need not to worry too much about that.

Good luck!

I applied two years ago to dental schools and didn't submit my application until late August...big mistake...I could have had the entire application submitted and ready to go by the time I took the DAT (except DAT scores of course). Not saying it is impossible but I would advise you to submit your application sooner rather than later. Good luck on the DAT

Thank you jigabodo and finchy86!

While I plan to esubmit my application in the next few days (transcript already sent), my letters and DAT scores won't be in until much later. I'm confused as to when admissions committees will start evaluating or have access to my application...as soon as its sent from Adea? Or as soon as EVERYTHING, including scores and letters are in?

Usually, schools won't start looking at your application until it is 100% complete, meaning your DAT scores, letters of recommendation, etc will need to be turned in before they start reviewing your applications.

I believe that most schools don't even look at the application until they have EVERYTHING. So AADSAS application, DAT scores, letters of recommendation...all of it. That is why it is critical to have everything in if possible by the time you take the DAT (probably 3-4 weeks for DAT scores to be received by schools because they have to be sent first to AADSAS)

Eek. Thanks so much! Guess I better get to it!

Also, anyone know why I received instructions/link for submitting a secondary the other day from one of my designated schools? As soon as I saw it, my heart skipped a beat thinking I had submitted my Aadsas incomplete by accident, but I checked and I hadn't. I guess this means adcoms can see which schools you check even before you submit? And they send secondaries without and initial prescreening?
