I plan on taking the DAT within a month. I have been doing DAT Destroyer problems for a little while but I do not think it is helping me at all. I do 40 Bio, 30 chem, and 30 orgo questions a day. After every 10 questions I check the answers and read all the explanations. If I am getting certain topics wrong consistently, I will go back to my notes and review that concept. My problem is that I do not seem to be making any improvement. I have done about 150-200 problems of each section so far. When I started I was only getting about 50% of the questions right but halfway through I am still only getting 50% right. What am I doing wrong and what can I do better?

I would continue doing what you're doing and really make sure you understand the concepts. But also I think it helps to mark the questions you got wrong and rework those questions a day or two after to make sure you commit it to your long-term memory. If you get some of the questions wrong again, put them on notecards and review your notecards regularly.

The questions aren't designed to be repetitive that would end up just being a lot of fluff. Every question in destroyer is designed to teach you something new (with a few repeats of some concepts here and there to refresh).

Most people get half right the first time start to end that seems to be normal on here.

Use every problem as a way of learning not testing where you are at. (I would say the same goes for bootcamp as well)

@BYU4you has it right....destroyer isn't really repetitive. Some of the more important concepts, there are more questions. Go through all the questions at least twice and then see how you feel. Don't worry too much about getting things right or wrong, just try to learn why you got it wrong.

Also a pointer: don't only go over the explanations, go over the answer choices and define them. Out of one question can easily be made 3, 4, or 5.

Agreed!

Hi SDN2016,

Keep working through the Destroyer, don't worry about what you get wrong. You are identifying your weaknesses. It is much better to get a question wrong while studying than test day.

Make you weakness your strength. The DAT Destroyer is a VERY challenging book but so is the DAT.

The best suggestion I give students is do not take the DAT until you are fully prepared. Taking the DAT prematurely often ends in disaster.

Always weigh on the side of caution and reschedule if necessarry.

Wishing you the best...

Nancy
