This new research from MIT is truly amazing. The neuroscientists genetically altered mice to have Fragile X Syndrome (a genetic syndrome which is a leading cause of mental ******ation and autism). Then they genetically altered mice which inhibited an enzyme called PAK. Finally, they cross-bred the mice and found that the neuronal connections were re-established (it was genetically engineered to occur after two weeks into their lives) which in turn corrected the behavior abnormalities of the cross-bred mice.

The implications for human treatment are incredible. Real reversal of severe brain damage in people with MR and Autism. This is right out of science fiction stories! Actually, various science fiction type stories play around with the concept of the formerly brain damaged person never really being able to cope with the fact that he/she was mentally ******ed. Just imagine, one day you are mentally ******ed and the next day you are posting and aswering people's questions on SDN Psychology!

One day? Bah! I've been doing that for months now🙂

At least it feels that way when I'm trying to decipher some of my new stats books....

That is really cool stuff though. I can't wait to see what else comes out of that lab.

That is really spectacular; I wonder what ethical implications will be "found" before the folks at MIT can actually take this as far as it needs to go to help those in need. On the one hand, you have a means those who could greatly benefit from a procedure such as this - on the other hand, we potentiality start WW3 over an "uber-American"...

That's what got Hitler into trouble...

Like 'Flowers for Algernon'...that's really amazing.
