My doctor prescribed me ambien to my major sleeping issues before exams. I was curious to know if taking two 5mg ambien pills is the same as taking one 10mg pill? Also, would there be any benefit taking 1 oral and 1 sublingual?

SDN is definitely not the place for this. Especially not the Step 1 section (which means mostly everyone here isn't even a doc yet).

That being said, two 5mg's should be the same as one 10mg. And taking a sublingal will give you immediate effects, whereas an oral dose will have a longer effect but have a greater time to onset.

You should test it out and see what works best for you. Also make sure that you are not groggy on the day of the exam as some sleeping pills can cause grogginess in the morning.

Do a test run and make sure you are awake at the time of the test during the day.

Talk to your doctor buddy... mixing oral route vs sublingual route together could cause you to end up with a higher effective dosage than intended.

As valk said do a test run. Ambien ZONKS some people, don't want that to be you on test day!

Survivor DO

I took a test run few days ago. Took two 5mg by oral. It was my first time still took me thirty forty minutes. Worse part is it lasted 3 3.5 hours max and i was awake. Tryin everything i can to fall asleep tonight. All i ask is for six peaceful hours. Exam is tomorrow. Should i take it with a melatonin?

I wouldn't try anything new. I would personally rather take a few shots of whiskey

No, never take any alcohol the night before the exam. You don't want your sleep cycles messed up. My advice would be to chug lots of chamomile tea, and in case that doesn't help, take the ambien you have - 5 mg, not more.

I take 10mg ambien (zolpidem) every night. The onset of action is very quick (15-20 min) so there's no need to worry about how fast it works. On days where I only have time for about 4 hours of sleep, I break it in half to decrease the amount as well as the time it takes to release into my system. It has been wonderful being able to go to sleep /wake up exactly when I need to.

I was going to suggest the same thing. Test it out before an exam to make sure you can think properly after taking that.

The night before the exam, I drank two cups of chamomile tea with milk and honey while watching a movie, and that worked wonders for me. I made sure not to drink anything within the hour before bed just to ensure that I wouldn't have to micturate in the middle of the night.

I slept in a basement room with pillows stuffed over the windows.

I had foam earplugs in, a beanie covering my head/eyes and lots of heavy blankets covering myself head to toe.

I set my alarm clock on loud but also had my dad come wake me up at a certain time just in case.

I got 8.5 hrs of sleep, and I'm very lucky that was the case bc there were a few extremely difficult questions on my exam that I'm not sure I would have gotten had I been even a little flaky that day. I wouldn't take any pills/EtOH the night before bc you want to ensure maximum delta-/REM-sleep.

I've woken up perfectly fresh with 1mg of Lorazepam before and I'm hoping the same applies for me before Step. Trouble is I don't want to acclimate my body to it before the exam or else I might develop tolerance to it before the night that counts. There's really no way I could wake up in time otherwise.
