Linux OS's not supported :/ anyone know of a way around? I guess I'll be using good ole virtual box
 
haha, was just about to post this. Went to check after seeing AACOMAS opened already.
 
Long process - pace yourself, keep emotions in check.

12 months from now, chances are you will be agonizing over choosing a school, waiting on finaid offers.

Or worse, agonizing over waitlist movement.

Or god forbid, starting all over again.
 
Sorry, but I couldn't find the anwer to this on any of the other AMCAS -threads, and it's a really quick question about adding courses on the AMCAS application-

say I failed a class (got a D), then repeated it and got an A. I have to enter in both attempts, right, even though the failed class counts as 0 credits on my degree-audit report? And if I add both attempts, which one do I check the "repeat" box for?

Alright, I already have a question...

Have you ever taken a post-secondary course anywhere other than at your home institution, including college courses taken while in high school?

What do they mean by this? I transferred during undergrad and took my post-bacc stuff at two different schools, plus one class at a CC. I already listed all of those schools and said that a transcript would be required from them. Do I say yes or no here?
 
Is there any where that I can read more on the eligibility for disadvantaged status?

They are asking if you will be forwarding a tranny from these schools.

The answer is yes - it is an awkwardly worded thing.

I think there are exceptions, such as when you attend a study abroad program through a US institution - you list the US college, plus the foreign school, but you only get the tranny from the US college...

About how long (hours) does this thing take to fill out? Should I start working on it now, or dedicate all my time to studying for my May 22 MCAT and only work on the app after that?

About adding colleges for study abroads. I already chose my university and when I will graduate. If I went on a study abroad through my uni, do I choose that no degree will be obtained? The web doesn't allow for my actual graduation date. I looked at the manual thing too but that didn't enlighten me any. Thanks!

There is a couple hours of busy work involved in entering coursework. It also takes a while to get the activities entered all nice and pretty. Assuming you've already written at least a draft of your PS, you should be able to hold off until after your test.

similar to the previous question, i studied abroad with a program through my university.
that is, all courses with their grades are on my uni transcript, the courses are called the exact same thing as they would have if i had taken them at home, professors from home went abroad and taught us there, etc.

so to the question "Have you ever taken any foreign coursework, including study abroad etc.?" what do I put?

EDIT: to clarify, I was also not in any courses with foreigners. my university has a center there, and all of the students were kids from my university. basically, there is absolutely record on my transcript of studying abroad. i talk about it in my PS a bit, but thats all.

Disadvantaged Status

Disadvantaged status is self-determined and each medical school has their own
policies for how they use this information.

This information is voluntary and will not affect the processing of your application.

To help determine if you are disadvantaged, click the How do I know if I should be considered disadvantaged? link, which displays the following information:

Underserved: Do you believe, based on your own experiences or the
experiences of family and friends that the area in which you grew up was
inadequately served by the available health care professionals? Were there
enough physicians, nurses, hospitals, clinics, and other health care service
providers?

Immediate Family: The Federal Government broadly defines "immediate
family" as "spouse, parent, child, sibling, mother or father-in-law, son or
daughter-in-law, or sister or brother-in-law, including step and adoptive

State and Federal Assistance Programs: These programs are specifically
defined as "Means-Tested Programs" under which the individual, family, or

Oh the annoyance!! It hates my password and won't let me through because it has a character that isn't a letter or number, but that password works for things like the MCAT! *sigh*

If I took one course during the summer at an outside institution seperate from my actual college do I need to request a transcript sent to AMCAS?
 
Having trouble logging in... It keeps showing "cookiepass1 and cookiepass2" at the address bar (keeps refreshing the address with those urls). Did it on firefox 3.6.3 which they claim is supported (I have a mac). Also checked to make sure cookies were enabled and they were. So was java. Any ideas anyone?

It did the same thing to me. I just switched over to Internet Explorer, and it worked.
 
Haha damn cant believe its been a year. I remember last year seeing c/o 2013 posting **** just like this in our thread.. but its true it flies but it doesnt. Enjoy the waiting game.. it sucks.
 
Do I have to finish the whole application in one sitting? Or can you do a portion, save it without submitting, and work on it later?

I earned an associates degree in nursing. Then went back and got a BS in nursing. Do I need to add both degrees or just the BS?
 
Hey I'm applying in the 2010-2011 admission cycle. In my amcas under Tab 7. Medical schools it says "You may not apply to any more medical schools. Either all deadlines have passed, or you have already applied to all available medical schools. " Anyone else have this problem?

EDIT: Nvm i was logged into the 2009-2010 amcas.

aw crap. I made an AMCAS account prior to May 4th and I've already submitted transcripts using the forms generated from that one. Only today I realized that I've been using the 2010 application this whole time... FML. Do you think AMCAS will handle this for me or should I send transcripts yet again using forms from the 2011 application? ><

Just wanted to say good luck to ya'll applying this year. The rest of your year will be full of stress, but hang in there..it pays off in the end.

Download WINE and the Windows version of Firefox. Worked for me last year. 👍
 
why did it open so early this year? or did it open the same time? OMG was I late last year??
 
Hey, guys, I just have a quick question about the transcript. I've noticed that AACOMAS has a new requirement this year. They are not going to verify the transcripts until we send all our spring term grades up to junior year (at least). Do you guys happen to know if AMCAS requires this too? My stats are not that great so I'm planning to apply as early as possible. My school is quarter system and I won't get my spring grades until June 24th. I've read the instruction book for AMCAS and I haven't seen any request like that. But I still want to make sure. Does anybody know? Thanks!
 
I am re-applying this year and AMCAS saved all of my stuff from last year! Including my grades and activities that saved me about 2 hours worth of work!!

I started lurking around SDN this time last year so its bringing back some memories.


Good Luck Class of 2015! The next year will be filled with some unbelievable excitement, obsessive compulsive email, mail, and status checking, some great highs, and some disappointments. Like someone said earlier though, do pace yourself and keep busy with other stuff. Especially once you submit your secondaries otherwise you will go CRAZY.

and oh yes...the process (if you start now) can be 12 + months. enjoy!

Hahaha yea it let me edit stuff which I'm sure the old version doesn't allow after submission. And the medical school section was blank lol
