Hey guys can i add cooking and playing video games in my hobby section? i mean this is pretty much what i do besides work and school and i was wondering if i can get some opinions about this. Thank you

In my opinion, cooking is a yes if you can write about it as a kind of art and a kind of analytical skill.

I would avoid video games. We could talk for hours about the potential merits, both in cognition and dexterity, but the fact is that many/most adcoms are, well, old....

I would not... That seems like something you'd be adding just to take up space. Maybe it will come up in interviews instead.

I did not mention cooking at all in my AMCAS, but interviewers often asked me what I like to do for fun/hobby. I always said cooking and it usually started a nice conversation about it (how I got started, what I like about it, what I make, blah blah). I love playing video games, but I never mentioned it because I think it would seem more like a waste of time (which it mostly is even if it is fun.) Think of it this way, would you recommend that someone put watching TV as a hobby? That is how a lot of people view games.

Mention the cooking. Talk about your best dishes. Everyone likes to eat, so you can't go wrong here.

Assuming I have a space left, I am definitely going to fill it with cooking, hot sauce making, and beer brewing (all in 1 space).

I feel like its a general rule to throw stuff like that onto applications and resumes. You never know what is going to catch someones eye. The more of an interview spent chatting about some mutual hobby = the better that person may like you.

Assuming they are the initiators, of course...

I think that one hobby isn't a bad idea. Cooking would be a good one, if you genuinely enjoy it. We all have to cook, but do you get exotic or creative with it? Do you have any stories about a novel dish that turned out really well (or really poorly, for that matter)?
