Hello Everyone,

I hope this is not a silly question- but I figured I could definitely get the right answer here! I am a second semester junior, planning on applying to med school. I went onto the AMCAS application site and it says the application currently up is for the 2014 entering class. When will this change to the application for the 2015 entering class?

I was a little confused when I saw the 2014 app still up and it made me question if I am starting things too early. I come from a very small school that doesn't have a pre-med major- we typically only have a few students apply to med school each year. So, I a kind of on my own with all of this. I would appreciate any other tips or information regarding the timeline of when to start applying/getting recommendation letters/ etc. Thanks in advance!

The application will open in May. If you wanted, I suppose you could start thinking about/working on your personal statement (Why Medicine?), but you'll have time for that later. For now, I'd say focus on getting good grades!

EDIT: you could also make sure you have your letters of recommendation set up/have a plan for who will be submitting letters for you

I think by may is when the new cycle opens up for you to fill out.

There's a pdf app guide that'll tell you what you need to gather in terms of info.

Sent from my phone.

I will definitely start asking for recommendations to be written- but not sent out. How do I go about having the letters submitted when the time comes?

We had a letter service at my school. Profs send in their letters to the letter service, and then I had the letter service send them to AMCAS when needed. Schools then download the letters from your AMCAS app.

Does your school offer something like that? Another useful service like this is Interfolio. But definitely start thinking about letters now. I know people who asked for letters in april/may and were waiting until august/sept. to have them written and submitted.. it delayed their entire application.

So they are submitted electronically? I believe my school had a "pre-med committee" that does something similar to the letter service. Thanks for all your help!

Letters will be submitted electronically and will be probably taken care of by your pre-med committee. Ask your pre-med committee or its office about what you need to do for the upcoming cycle (for example, they might ask you to bring your personal statement rough draft and letters of recommendation from some professors, prior to writing a committee letter).

Look through 2014 AMCAS application (2015 application should be much similar) and I would work on the activity section (15 activities, descriptions, contact info, approximate hours, most meaningful remark, etc.) and your personal statement.
