Would a class titled "Molecular and Medical Pharmacology" fly with a science designation?

What department is it in? That's usually the easiest way to tell.

If the topic was primarily Pharmacology, then it would be "Health Sciences" (not BCPM). If the primary topic was something else, then it could be Biology (BCPM). It's up to you to classify the course. Refer to AMCAS's list to designate by primary course content https://services.aamc.org/AMCAS2_2012/WebApp/Help/WebHelp/Course_Work_Course_Classification.htm

Read thread title and immediately thought class warfare had gone one step further.

sector9, it's a research class in which I primarily do brain imaging research so I was hoping it would qualify for science gpa but I'm unsure of what amcas would do because I was told that if they disagree, you'll have to provide a class description and the description for the class is something I write up every quarter explaining that I will be analyzing brain images. There is no actual standard course description that I can provide from the school's class scheduling site.

I'm just curious because I've been doing research for a course grade for multiple quarters so if it does count for science gpa, it will help me tremendously for apps. thanks

I had a similar situation. Just call them up and ask. To me it sounds like a science course. How is brain imaging not science?? You are studying something, collecting data, analyzing the data, and getting results..on the brain.

I would bet it gets corrected to nonscience. Class title emphasis on pharmacology. Just like "Biology of Dance" emphasizes dance.

Previous reports on SDN seem to indicate that for research credit courses, AMCAS allows it as BCPM if the credit is from a BCPM department but doesn't allow it from a non-BCPM department. Classify it as you wish and leave it up to AMCAS to change if you feel that it should count.

I didn't challenge a course but this is the form you'll be given to work with if you need to:

As you can see, it's free text so you can explain as you wish in whatever way you think will convince them.
