Just wondering if anyone has some insight or has been in a similar situation where they have one EC activity where two options in the drop down box apply, which did you pick?

Examples

1) I was a resident assistant. I also recieved an award for this. I need to talk about both in the same page because otherwise I won't have room for other stuff. So would I qualify this as a work experience or an honor/award experience?

2) Would an acknowledgement in a publication be qualified as a publication or should I inculde this under my research experience?

3) I was a competative piano player in college - Artistic endeavor or extracurricular?

Thanks in advance for your help.

1) If you can only talk about it in once place, I would classify it as an activity and then discuss the award in the description. I had one activity completely dedicated to awards (get them all out of the way). If you do that, then you can talk about it in both places.

2) That doesn't seem like a publication. Talk about it in your research, and perhaps list it as an honor if you do an awards section

3) If artistic endeavor is a category that I would put that. I think either one is fair game, but this one sounds cooler 😎

Put whichever category the rest of your application is most lacking (i.e. use the different categories to try to round out your application.)

Take this with a grain of salt, only my opinion and what I would do in your circumstances:

1) I was a resident assistant. I also recieved an award for this. I need to talk about both in the same page because otherwise I won't have room for other stuff. So would I qualify this as a work experience or an honor/award experience?

I would put this as an EC and talk about the award in the description (unless you have a TON of EC and no awards)

2) Would an acknowledgement in a publication be qualified as a publication or should I inculde this under my research experience?

I'd put it under your research experience. Underlines the depth of your involvement but may look like fluff if added seperately.

3) I was a competative piano player in college - Artistic endeavor or extracurricular?

Artistic endeavor - it will stand out more I think. Be sure to list how long you have been playing and then talk about your competative experience in the description. I think it's more important to detail your long (I'm assuming here) commitment to the piano.

Very helpfull. Thanks all!
