AMCAS personal statement limit?

How long does the AMCAS personal statement have to be (on the max)? Some treads say its 5300 some say its 5800. Some one please let me know for sure if its 5300 or 5800 and is it with characters or without characters.

Only post if you know for sure. Sorry i am being little rude but i really need a CORRECT answer because i am tried of searching SDN for 2 hours to find out the length of PS.

Just to clarify. It's 5300 characters, not words.

damn indeed, my almost 5000 characters (with spaces) in my rough draft is only about 840 words, so you are WAY over. You either have a lot of really good experiences or you just wrote about everything you did for the last 3-4 years. Regardless, adcoms don't want to read a book. Good luck cutting out a lot of stuff.
