My AMCAS application just completed processing, and now I'm waiting for it to be transmitted to the schools. Does anybody know if there is a lag time in June before the schools actually begin receiving applications?

I'm in the same situation and got fed up with simply sitting on my hands and waiting for AMCAS. I believe last year (or some other year in the recent past) there was a big AMCAS fiasco that delayed the entire process by months.

In short: I emailed AMCAS and asked about it. They said the first day for transmission will be July 14th.

I thought earlier instructions said the first day would be July 1st, but that just goes to show that the world is unfair and the people who demand deadlines will always be late. *Shrug*

The AMCAS fiasco was two years ago. Last year went relatively smoothly.

Transmission begins in July from what I remember, however some schools will wait because they don't want them yet (I remember Northwestern waiting until the end of July). You will get individual transmit dates on your AMCAS webpage. You could go start getting secondaries if you'd like; just start going to medical school websites and finding them. You'll find that some are going to invite you, some haven't posted them yet, and some are ready to receive secondaries without primaries.

Like I said before, AMCAS told me the first day of transmission is July 14th.

However, a coworker in my lab told me her application had already been transmitted and that she was receiving secondaries from schools already. She's doing MD-only and the only plausible theories I could come up with are that (1) the MD-PhD and MD-only transmissions are separate (which doesn't seem to make much of any sense at all) or (2) AMCAS doesn't know jack about it's own operation nonetheless that of others...

Yeah, I was just asking around about last year and it seems like most people's earliest transmission was on July 15th.

The coworker is also applying to osteopathic schools. These were the ones she received secondaries for already. AMCAS website says first transmissions are today (the 14th).
