Hey all,

I'm working away on my AMCAS, but I am wondering when I can submit it at the earliest- since I am taking the June MCAT, I wont have my scores until July.

I have heard it's a good idea to submit as early as possible to one school, and then wait for processing. After this, it would be easy to submit to all the others. Is it possible/a good idea instead to send it to all the schools without my MCAT? Will the MCAT score get forwarded automatically once available, or should I just wait?

Also, when do schools like to see LOR's? My school seems to think they don't look at them until they have your secondaries.

thanks!

Your June MCAT will be fine. Schools don't even look at the applications until July. Just submit early and your MCAT score will be sent as soon as it comes in.

LORs go out with secondaries.

Hi I'm also taking the june mcat and was wondering what to do about the amcas application. I plan on submitting my app in early june but why do people say to submit it to only one school? And when do you think schools will send us secondaries after submitting amcas? Thanks

Well, here's how it works. You submit your app and pay for at least one school. Then it takes a few weeks for your application to be verified. The problem is, you may not know what your MCAT is. So say that you apply to all your schools and your school list looks like this:

Harvard
Johns Hopkins
Dartmouth
Yale
Cornell
U of Penn

You've paid for six schools. Say you get your MCAT back and it's a 27 instead of the 35 you were hoping for. Now you know you're out of it for those Ivies, for the most part, and you have to apply to lower tier schools. But you've already wasted the money on those six.

So if you only select one school -- say Harvard -- and then wait to get your MCAT back before adding more, you save yourself money. If you get your 35, then add all the above. If you don't break a 30, then you'll want to change your school list instead of wasting it on schools that look for higher MCATs.

Does that make sense?

Perfect sense. Thanks so much. But after I receive my mcat score and decide to update my school list, will it further delay the process? Or as long as I'm verified by then, should it be fine?

As long as you're verified, adding schools takes seconds. All you do is click on the schools and AMCAS will send your application to them. It's the verification that takes a while which is why people say to submit with one school right away so you can start the verification process while waiting for your MCAT score.

Is there any difference in price for adding schools later? Specifically, do they charge you more?

I honestly can't remember. I know the first school you choose is a set fee and then each school after that is something like $40, but if you come back later, I don't know if they just charge you the $40 or go back to the first school price. I want to say it was $40, but I can't be 100% sure. You can call AMCAS about that.

No I don't think they do

So, at the moment, I have a MCAT score from last year, but I am rewriting in June this summer.

Is it wise for me to submit my application the day AMCAS opens on June 2, with my old MCAT score?

Should I only submit it for SOME schools, or should I send to ALL?
