If an award was received as a result of an organization, should i mention the award separately, or should i mention it when talking about the organization itself?

If it is something that you could talk about a lot and had significance, then yes it might be a good idea to list it separately.

If it isn't something you could see having significance as a separate entity, then I'd just list it under the organization you got it from.

yeah, im kind of using that criterion too. i gave a poster and presentation for a summer research project, but i didnt find that it was enough to warrant separation from the research itself. i based it on how much i could write about it and talk about it
