I'm kind of confused on the Activities section of the application (I finally took a look at what this section involves by reading the AMCAs instruction/guide)..

1) Do I include my high school "gap year" activities? I graduated highschool in 3 years (in 2004), took basically a gap year and volunteered in a hospital and worked a restaurant job. Do I include this job and my hospital experience, even though they were before college?

2) What do you do about awards? Like, there are descriptions that are "hours/week" for how long the activity is. This is the section where you include Dean's List, etc etc, you just wouldnt answer "hours/week"?

3) I earned a distinguishing award at my internship. Should I include this separately or in the description of the internship? (same goes with a publication, do I include the publication and the research job separately?)

I know its kind of early for all of this since we can't start filling it out until May, but I'm just wondering how its all going to work out.

Thanks

1. I believe you do. I believe you include everything from high school onwards at least, so that would count. Plus, your volunteering is something you should really put in for what it adds to your app.

2. yep, you just don't answer the hrs/wk since it doesn't apply.

3. depends on how many awards you have to list. either would be fine, unless its very imp and you want to emphasize it in the awards.

publication would go separate to the research job. research job would be part of your timeline.

its been a while since i filled this out or i must have blocked my memories bc its all fuzzy 😉! don't worry, filling it out isn't as complicated as it seems before you start. just finalize your CV to make it easy to look up/input everything, and work on your PS.
