Hi fellow sdn gang,

I am having a rough time picture amelogenesis. I thought the direction of amelogenesis from DEJ to outward (surface of tooth). But 1 of the dental decks said "Enamel formation begins at the future cusp and spreads down the cusp slope." ??!??! does that mean it amelogenesis begins at the tooth surface and ends at DEJ?!?? very confused about this.

Also ... Tomes' process..I understand they are formed apically near DEJ as ameloblasts retreat and I understand they are in a pit. I was wondering if they turn into Enamel Rods or Interrod enamel?!?!

Lastly, the decks say that the lines of Von ebner in dentin are the most similar to Lines of retzius in enamel. However The first aid book says...von ebners are Daily imbrication lines in dentin and Lines of retzius are periodic. This way lines of retzius will be most similar to contour lines of Owen and not von ebners??!?!

Id really appreciate it if someone can please clarify these thoughts for me

Thank you all in advance for your help!

First Q, imagin there is huge icebug looks like molar that is totally shinken underneath water, then it is risen up through the surface of water. what will be shown at very first? that will be tip of icebug. tip of icebug will be your tip of cusp then surface of water will be your DEJ.

Tomes processes are the cytoplasmic processes of the ameloblasts during their secretory phase. They disappear after the ameloblasts enters the maturative stage (where they mineralize the enamel more and draw out some of the proteins) They form the enamel rods, but do not turn into them.

i believe contour lines of owen are pathological. and lines of von ebner more physiological like lines of retzius.
