I am fairly certain that I will need to complete an SMP program when I graduate (in 2014) but I also would like to do Americorps for a year. I don't want to have to take two years off before applying to school, and I know of a few SMP programs with evening classes, and Americorps positions that are during the daytime...so I'd like to do both.

That being said, if the programs would allow me to do so (I have no idea if they would or not) would that be too much to do together? I know I'd have a pretty full day (which I'm already used to) but I don't want to overload myself and do poorly in either Americorps or the SMP.

I think you may be confused about what SMPs are. You're not going to find a night program that does the job of a Gtown, EVMS, Cincy, Temple, Tulane ACP etc. A legitimate SMP is most of the first year of med school, taken with med students, as an audition for med school. That's not a night program.

With a low GPA you can't make plans to get into med school on a schedule. If you want to do Americorps, then do Americorps, but don't screw yourself by trying to take a full course load after work. Maybe one class per term after work.

Best of luck to you.
