Is Amyliod deposition a sequelae of Type 1 Diabetes? I was just going through First Aid 2005 (High yield images section) and it said that over time the islet cells are replaced by amyloid????
I thought Amyloid was only associated with Type 2? Help!

Probably AA amyloid since it could be considered a chronic inflammatory condition.

2dary....cool. Thanks!

I personally don't live and die by FA and I would NOT put Type I DM if Type II was among the choices.

Agreed.

If they start talking about DM Type 2, then AMYLIN (aka "Islet Amyloid") is my answer.

DM Type 1 is more of an inflammatory rxn ("insulitis") with infiltration of lymph's. I guess if I'm forced to pick an amyloid type in DM Type 1, I'd go with AA. But I wouldn't be 100% confident of my answer...
