Hi!
I just joined the SDN... frankly out of desperation for some good opinions and umm.. it seems like a great network. So here's my issue:
I am a final year med student at the Aga Khan University in Pakistan. We're required to do 3 months of clinical electives, preferable at non-AKU universities/hospitals. Most of the students end up going to the US for electives and it's a known 'fact' amongst us AKUites that such electives put one at a major advantage if one wants to do a residency in the US. Is that true? I have applied and gotten in at Henry Ford and hopefully will be getting replies from Northwestern and Harvard soon. But my US visa was rejected (don't ask me why... I don't know!) and I don't know if electives in the States are worth going through all the trouble of reapplying, not to mention the huge amount of expenses for the whole 'experience' ($5000!!)... Would it put me behind my classmates in a way if I persued my electives in my country? I have very little time to decide what I need to do so.. HELP!
😕

Hi

Try your best to come to the US if you want to get your Residency here. It is definitely a major advantage.

good luck
