Well guys, I know I'm the famous updater and here I am:

1) I got rejected from all the dental schools
2) I applied to four master's programs and I got into all of them.

Here's the list:

a) University of California, Riverside - Master's in Biochemistry and Molecular program (non-thesis, one year)
b) California State University, Channel Islands - Master's in Biotechnology (one year program, non-thesis)
c) Online Master's in Biology program at a reputable university in the Midwest
d) Online Master's #2 in Biology program at a reputable university in the midwest

I'm not naming these universities but they're REAL universities with REAL campuses and REAL transcripts. the awesome thing is that these universities don't distinguish between online classes and classes based in the classroom. The degree isn't an "online" degree; it's just that I take the classes online but everything else is the same.

Now, just looking at all four, and comparing them, I know that I want to go somewhere where my Master's GPA can be maximized (as that was the reason I didn't get into anywhere this cycle). Obviously going to UCR is much harder than CSUCI. I've talked to like 2-3 people who went to UCR and they said the program is totally doable and they've got like 3.7 GPA's. On the other hand, I messaged like 20 people about CSUCI's program, and quite literally, they ALL have GPA's of over 3.7 except like one person. It's amazing how CSU CI cranks out these high GPA's. Obviously going there would maximized my chances as a re-applicant. I'm getting a Master's and it shows I can handle graduate work.

Now, as for the online courses (for the other two Master's), I honestly don't know. I mean, it'd DEF be easier. I could easily get a really good GPA working from home and it's much less expensive and convenient.

I just don't know what to do! Help me SDN experts 🙂

Congrats on getting into the Master's programs!.. Sorry about the dental school rejections... As far as being easier to do an online master, I would say maybe not.. I know some online classes and/or degrees are sometimes HARDER than that of a classroom setting so be careful with that.. As far as which program I would recommend? I have no idea lol... But good luck!

Do a masters program that feeds into a dental school. I know a good friend who did a masters program since he did not get into dental school and got into 2 dental schools the following year. Boston has the oral health science track that feeds into dental school . There are atleast 10 masters programs int he nation that feeds into dental school and if you do well you will get in. google masters program and you will see it on sdn
hope this helps.

when you fill out AADSAS, there is a section that asks if the class was online. Even tho the transcript doesn't indicate its online, its a good idea to be honest about it.

You need to go to one of the regular master's programs and skip the online ones. I'm sure that dental schools will expect LORs from your professors in the masters program. Your more likely to get a stellar LOR if they really know you. Also, I took Nutrition online a couple of years ago. It wasn't any easier or harder than a traditional class, but there was a ton of busy work that took up lots of time and did nothing to help me learn the material.

Forgot to mention.... you gotta consider how many dental school adcoms are aware of "those" master programs that are less desirable (offer online courses, etc).

wat was ur gpa/dat last cycle that u didnt get an acceptance?

19AA, 3.27 AADSAS GPA, 2.81 Science AADSAS GPA

So it's between CSU CI and UCR. Help me people haha.

what are the costs of each, how many students are in the program, what are the admission standards for each program ( avg stats), and any other detail that would help us assist in giving you any semi-reasonable feedback.

if you believe that school name matters (i.e. a 3.7 GPA from UCR will be more favorable than a 3.7 GPA from CSUCI) then go to UCR. (not that UCR is some kind of Ivy, if anything it's in the lower-tier of UCs, but point stands).

if you think GPA is just a number and that's all that matters go to CSUCI, it's cheaper and (based on your sources, at least) easier.

there's people from both schools of thought on SDN. if I were you, I'd go to CSUCI personally.

Only bad thing about CSUCI is that it's in a rural part of California. I looked it up on Google Maps. http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&sou...119.043474&spn=0.038992,0.077162&z=14&iwloc=A

It's like.....in the middle of no where.

UCR is at least suburban. Cost is pretty much the same. I don't really care about that. CSUCI is also like 3 hours from home while UCR is 40 minutes. UGH!

scratch that then. i figured csuci would have the cost factor going for it, but if that's not the case, and it's farther from home and away from everything, i don't really see what the hang up is...all signs point to ucr then, right?

true. only thing going for CSUCI is the fact that a high GPA is totally attainable.

theyre all nice though. the choice is between online vs. ucr vs. csuci

Pick where the program you enjoy better. Stop relying on other to make your decisions.
