This is an off-the-wall question.

My dad and I were talking a while back about his time at Cornell, where he roomed with 3 or 4 vet students while he was doing his graduate work in food science.

He mentioned that one of the things he remembered is that they spent hours and hours drawing anatomy, using some sort of "dot" method. He described it as drawing dot after dot after dot after dot to fill out an entire picture: I envision some sort of anatomical, gray-scale, pointillism.

Anyone ever heard of that technique? Is it still taught? Why were they doing it that way?

The technique sounds like stippling; I'd be very surprised if it wasn't still taught since it is widely used in art/illustration. As far as why vet students were using it to study... I have absolutely no idea.

Interesting! That sounds exactly like what he described. This would have been back in the .... oh, late 50's to early 60's, I imagine. Perhaps that was an integral part of anatomy class 50 years ago.
