I've done really well in all my med school prereqs, now I'm just looking for an extra science class or two to take to maybe distinguish myself a little. Was considering AP I and II. Is this a bad idea? I'd be really mad if I got a B.

It shouldn't be, but do some research on the instructors who are teaching it.

If you're a good student you should be able to get an A in just about any science class, but some professors still manage to make things remarkably subjective and ambiguous. If you haven't taken the MCAT yet, it'll also make studying for it a little easier.

I'd just take classes you like because I doubt it will set you apart at all.

It's just like any other science class you've probably taken. Heavier on the memorization than the difficult concepts.

Well, I'm interested in it too, that's a big part of why I want to take it. Just very worried about getting screwed.

that's why I love A&P 😀. Regurgitation is my specialty!

it doesnt matter how cool it makes you look, the material is fundamental if you ever want to look at a body in your lifetime. its stupid to think somethings dangerous like a&p, organics etc.

Well take it then. As stated, it is just a lot of memorization, like a lot of memorization. The way I see it though, is that you have more to loose than gain. If you do good it will be another A, but it probably won't do much to set you apart. But if you get a prof from He-double hockey sticks and get a C or something, that might raise a red flag. Another thing to consider; you will have anatomy and physiology coming out of every orifice in med-school. In other words; why take something you are going to take anyway? Just MO.

Its a very interesting class, but if you could take them as separate it would be much better.

Anatomy is pretty dry and lots of memorization..Physio is just a damn interesting class!

Approx. how much more would A&P prep you for the MCAT? I was thinking about taking it too, but I've got a full course load in the fall so I'm reconsidering.

I've taken AnP as an intro course, and then I've taken A n P separately as whole courses. Nothing special, but I did learn a lot and tend to remember the bio stuff so when I start my MCAT studying the bio section will just be a review. If you want to stand out take some other type of upper division science courses. Something non-bio maybe if you're qualified to take it? Maybe a foreign language?

Whether the class is a killer or not is completely dependent on the school. Some people say that the class is really easy. At mine it is considered one of the hardest classes on campus. And let me tell you it was difficult... however, i am really glad that i took it. I am using my ap bio credit from high school, so I did not really learn bio... It pushed me to study harder than I have ever studied. I recommend the class if you feel you don't have a strong foundation in bio, but if you do, then take the class if you think its interesting. I doubt med schools will care what you take unless its something crazy.
