1st time I was half into it and it showed I failed it second time I took this summer really into studying but the way the teacher worded his tests threw me off so I earned a D despite of me practicals and Labs being A's!! -__-

So I will be taking it a third time! ( yes i know this is horrible) I'm putting it on hold until spring of 2012 but everyday I've been quizzing myself studying so I think I will be ready for it this spring but I'm debating on whether i should just add it for the fall because I really need to finish up my other core requirements.. ( I will be a junior in the fall)

what do you guys think? and also do you think this will affect me when I apply for O.T grad?my other grades are solid A's and B's with one C in Math..

I'm so scared that this is going to mess me up that I'm debating on changing my major even though I really don't want to... I'm afraid that I will be rejected by every grad school I apply too..

I'm a Kean university student looking to apply to the Kean , stockton, nyu, and seton hall O.T grad programs.

please post your feedback! it will be greatly appreciated.

I'm sure as long as you pass it with a decent grade it won't ruin your chances. I would try not to worry as much and don't give up. If you really want to become an occupational therapist then you should not let anything stand in your way.

If that particular professor is the only one teaching A&P, then I suggest taking a different professor. That could mean having to take it at a local community college

I would recommend taking it solely on it's own or with one other class only and don't give up. Go see peer tutors if possible, ask for extra credit, anything to pass it with an A.

See each schools policy, some colleges will combine scores if taken multiply times and average out the grade.. some take the better grade, all depends

Kean might be faithful to accepting their own grads. Don't bother with Stockton they do not consider non-grads.

This alone won't ruin your chances. Especially if you have good grades in all of your other classes + good GREs & work experience. Use the other aspects of your application to sell yourself to the admissions committees. I agree with the others in that you need to do everything you possibly can to pass the class with an A the next time your take it, but do not re-take it at a community college. Just because of the fact that if you take it at a community college both the grade from the CC & the D from your university will factor into your gpa. If you take it at your uni. the D will still show up on your transcript but not factor into your gpa anymore. Plus you want to show admissions that you are capable of passing the class at the uni level since you had trouble with it the first couple times.

Seems like Bio might be a problem for you in general. With that in mind, you need to be careful when choosing a program. Feel free to PM me and I can go into further detail.

I agree with raquel. And I know I'm going against the crowd here, but sometimes it is a disservice to someone to encourage them in their endeavors no matter what.

I have a couple questions - the first time, you quit halfway through because at that point you were failing? Was there NO chance of eeking out a passing grade, with half the semester left? I think you should have finished the semester - finish what you start. The second time... sorry, but blaming the instructor for your bad grade does not go over well. CERTAINLY do not write anything like that in your personal statement!!! Labs and practicals are quite different from the rest of A&P. You need to thoroughly understand the underlying concepts, and I am guessing that you did not. If you had A's in labs and practicals but pulled a D overall, you must have failed your quizzes and exams, which apparently happened the first time you took the course, too. You cannot blame the instructor's wording for extremely poor performance like that.

I would say... yes, this will diminish your chances of getting into a program. It's not necessarily a complete deal-breaker, but there's no sense in claiming that it doesn't look bad. But, you're only halfway through college right now, so you do have a chance to pull yourself up with good grades in other courses (and try to get great grades in other sciences if you haven't already.) The way you describe your grades it sounds like you might not do that well in math and science in general. If you told me that you had always done well and you just hadn't studied for this class, that would be one thing, but to take it twice and be failing or near-failing, it doesn't seem like this is your strong suit.

Regarding GPA and whether a retake will negate your previous grade - I don't think there is a consistent rule for this. Each OT school calculates things differently, as does each undergraduate school. At my college, for instance, all grades factored into GPA. You could choose to retake a course, but your poor earlier grade would still factor in.

And I agree with the idea of taking it on its own or with only one other class, but since you have only just finished your sophomore year of college, I don't think that's really realistic for you assuming you are a full-time student on track to finish in 4 years.
