Does the iris regulate light as well or is it just the pupil? I know the cornea and lens refract light.

The iris controls the amount of light that enters the eye.

The pupil doesn't actually regulate the amount of light that enters the eye directly. The iris has muscle (sphincter pupillae and dilator pupillae), and these muscles act to change the size of the iris around the pupil, effectively making the "hole" of the pupil bigger and smaller.

Okay, thanks! So the iris regulates the amount of light the pupil lets in, essentially? I wish our book explained that better. I thought it was the pupil that actually regulates light.
