i just took a kaplan quiz on qbankchallenge.com--this week's revolved around anatomy...i starred what i thought was correct.
A 35-year-old woman suffers severe chest trauma. She is unconscious and her blood pressure is substantially decreased. She has sustained a tear in one of the pulmonary veins at the point at which the vein enters the heart. Into which of the following spaces is the patient hemorrhaging?
A. Between the epicardium and the parietal pericardium
B. Between the fibrous pericardium and the parietal pleura*
C. Between the myocardium and the epicardium
D. Between the parietal pericardium and the fibrous pericardium
E. Between the parietal pleura and the visceral pleura
A medical student is assisting during an intra-abdominal operation. The surgeon asks a medical student to pass his hand toward the head, along the inner aspect of the anterior abdominal wall, slightly to the right of the midline. The reflection of which of the following will eventually stop the movement of the student's hand?
A. Anterior layer of the coronary ligament*
B. Fissure for the ligamentum venosum
C. Left triangular ligament
D. Posterior layer of the coronary ligament
E. Right triangular ligament
A patient comes to the urgent care clinic complaining of five days of fever, sore throat, and dysphagia. Examination of the pharynx reveals a severe, unilateral swelling on the right. Imaging of the neck reveals a pharyngeal abscess that has ruptured into the retropharyngeal space. The infectious material from the pharyngeal abscess would be found between the
A. buccopharyngeal layer of deep cervical fascia and the prevertebral layer of deep cervical fascia
B. investing layer of deep cervical fascia and the carotid sheath*
C. investing layer of deep cervical fascia and the pretracheal layer of deep cervical fascia
D. investing layer of deep cervical fascia and the prevertebral layer of deep cervical fascia
E. prevertebral layer of fascia and the prevertebral muscles
A surgeon wishes to explore the head of the pancreas. After entering the greater peritoneal sac through an incision in the anterior abdominal wall, she wishes to gain access into the right side of the lesser peritoneal sac in order to reach the head of the pancreas. Which of the following membranes would the surgeon incise in order to gain this access?
A. Falciform ligament
B. Gastrohepatic ligament
C. Gastrosplenic ligament
D. Hepatoduodenal ligament*
E. Splenorenal ligament
A 31year-old woman dislocates her glenohumeral joint while playing soccer. The shoulder is reduced in the emergency department. After one week, the surgeon notes that the woman has weakness when she attempts internal rotation of her right arm at the shoulder. This could be caused by a tear in which of the following muscles?
A. Infraspinatus
B. Pectoralis minor
C. Subscapularis
D. Supraspinatus*
E. Teres minor
* i know that the I and T in the SITS muscles are external rotators...so i think supraspinatus internally rotates.
A 55-year-old alcoholic man has developed chronic liver disease. He is admitted to the hospital because of hematemesis. He presents jaundiced with a distended abdomen and large distended abdominal wall veins. Because of the abdominal girth, the liver is not able to be palpated. He also has numerous cutaneous spider angiomata. Abdominal ultrasound shows an enlarged liver and more than 1500 mL of intraperitoneal fluid. Which of the following anastomoses is most likely the cause of his pathology?
A. Gastric veins - lower esophageal veins
B. Gastric veins - veins of the posterior abdominal wall
C. Paraumbilical veins - superficial veins of the anterior abdominal wall*
D. Superficial rectal veins - middle and inferior rectal veins
E. Tributaries of the inferior mesenteric veins - veins of the posterior abdominal wall
any help would be appreciated 🙂
