Hi, I am doing anesthesiology residency- CA2. Wondering about fellowship feild ? I am confused between pediatric and pain fellowship. Which one is better ?
I like pediatrics but afraid of stressful life !!
About pain fellowship I like to do procedures but don't like dealing with crazy patients seeking for pain medication!!

I don't think ped's is gonna be anymore stressful than adults. You'll be great at it after a fellowship.

As for Pain....well difficult patients make up a large portion of the population. Thats the deal.

A brilliant peds anesthesiologist would always tell me peds anesthesia is the biggest boondoggle around - he never seemed stressed, and MOST don't, but there are some out there that make it seem like the sky is falling every time they do anesthesia on a kid.

If you set up a pain clinic correctly, you will not be a pill pusher, or a refill clinic - this is the job for those who sent the patient to you. Your job as a pain physician is to make recommendations and major medication adjustments and more importantly, do interventions that may help. I used to be very scared of pain patients, but after spending time in a well run clinic that was very structured, I learned that these patients can be handled very well and it is a fun, exciting and challenging field.
