Can someone please give me some advice? I graduated from a US med school in 2007. I've tried the match and scramble without success. I didn't do an EM rotation as a med student. I shadowed for a couple months to get letters, but I was warned it would most likely not be enough. For 2009, I'm debating between EM and anesthesia. I'm a suboptimal candidate for these highly competitive fields. I need clinical exposure. What do you suggest is the best method to do that? Where can I find average USMLE scores for people who've matched into these specialties?
Please help me.

the data isn't out for this years match. last years has been posted here in the past so do a search. it was called something like charting outcomes I think. last year step one was 221 I think. can't remember step two. did you apply to many programs?

thanks, amyl and neigh. i'll check it out. yes, i did apply to a lot of programs...

hi, amyl. no away rotations in anesthesiology...

looks like the best plan for me is to hope a prelim vacancy in IM/surgery will show up and then apply off cycle to PGY2/PGY1 spots...

doesn't hurt to go throught the match as well.... again i recommend vcu...its an awesome program and has two spots in the match for starting next fall as a CA-1. pm me if you want more info. are all the prelim med spots filled?...did you try roanoke prelim im that bagas suggested?

hi, Amyl.
yes, i think all the prelim IM positions are filled. i don't remember trying roanoke though...thanks

btw if you hear anything else, please let me know. thanks again!

I think they are looking for someone for a prelim surgery position. Check it out.

thanks, Versedguy. Will take a look 🙂...
