is it a popular option for anesthesiologists to pursue fellowships (besides pain managment)? is there any significant increase in salaries upon completing a fellowship? as it seems right now, the job market for anesthesiologists fresh out of residency seems pretty good.

what are the various fellowship options in anesthesiology? i am aware of cardiac anesthesiology. what are some others?

Right now fellowship programs exist in OB, peds, critical care, cardiac, and pain. Most of these fellowships entail extra exposure, not really anything you wont do as a resident. The chair at the hospital where I did my gas rotation told me that they wouldnt hire attendings without fellowship training but right now they dont have much of a choice since they job market is so competetive. At this same hospital the directors of OB and peds anesthesia were not fellowship trained. The CT guys all had at least 1 year of fellowship training and a couple of them went for additional training to get TEE certification. My goal is to find a critical care fellowship that offers TEE training and become a 1 man CT-ICU.
