Agree. About 9 weeks, I think, for me. I got an email saying to check the site and got a letter in the mail about a week and a half later.

I took it when could throw out 50 of the 200 questions. They recently took that option away so that all questions are graded now. The questions are challenging with a mix of chip shots thrown in. I didn't study much and felt like I needed to have the 50 questions to throw out. I could get most of those 50 narrowed down to 2 choices, but I just wasn't sure. So I probably would have gotten at least half of those 50 correct. As it stands, I missed about 12 total of the ones graded according to my keywords. It covers all areas, so it covers a wide array of topics including pain, OB, trauma, critical care etc.
I have heard that they are moving towards a tougher exam that doesn't have a 99.9% pass rate. They have taken the first step. I will be anxious to see what the new pass rate will be. Supposedly, the ABMS told them that they can no longer have such an easy recert exam. I wouldn't say it was easy, but it was not nearly as challenging as the primary exam. Hope this helps.

The ACE questions are pretty good CME and a good general review.

i always knew those mfs would make it hard as possible by the time i took it. its a money making scheme. It will be interesting when a large amount of people just font bother getting recertified or continually fail the test. I mean ten years without studying the minutia bulls___ they ask can really get you rusty. you take a busy doc.. how the heck are they gonna study for it. especially those doing pain management or icu..

It's that "committment to lifelong learning" concept.
The AA's have some of the same complaints with our exam when it first came out in 1992. My hospital doesn't do hearts and has very limited peds - but then my cardiac anesthetist friends that never do an OB case bitch even more.
Anesthesiology is an ever-changing field. The only constant in 30 years is "oxygen is good". I anesthetize patients TOTALLY different than I did when I started - different drugs, monitors, physiology and pharmacology concepts, equipment, etc.
Remember - CRNA's are the only type of anesthesia provider that doesn't have a recert exam. They're thinking about it - but only because they have to. 😉

It is a mostly clinical scenario exam. I doubt the bar will be raised too high, just not 100% pass rate. Some of the questions were very difficult. However, I suspect that ones I thought were tough, others thought were easy and vice versa. It all depends on the makeup of your practice as to what areas you are most comfortable.
I wish I knew a percent correct for the pass rate. You might only get 60% correct and still pass for all I know.
Unfortunately I too left it for the last moment. Result does not come out till end of March. I did call up the Board to see if they could let the result out earlier, since all this uncertainity is killing me. No sympathy from them!
I guess they are busy counting the money before they grade the exam!

😕
I studied ACE. It was good for updating knowledge in terms of recent guidelines/consensus. I actually found about 4-5 questions used in the real exam. However, that is still not enough. You have to go back to the basic stuff that you don't think about during your practice. I am going to get the Jensen review book if I fail. More money getting burned...The ACE questions are pretty good CME and a good general review.
Keeping my fingers crossed...

I used Morgan and Mikhail (Lange) + ACE questions. That was adequate for the previous recert exam. As it evolves, who knows? I doubt it will be drastically different.

Finally, the results are out. This was less than 6 weeks. It's a relief that I don't have to spend over a thousand bucks on books and registration...
Congrats! It is like reliving the anxiety associated with the primary exam all over again, huh? Glad you got it behind you.
