Current M3, considering anesthesia. I have a hunch I know the answer to this question, but just thought I'd confirm: Is it possible to have a practice geared towards Allergy/Pulm medicine after completing a CCM fellowship post-residency? I realize this is largely in the realm of IM, but was wondering if anyone has anecdotal examples.

A CCM fellowship after anesthesiology is very distinct from the crit/pulm fellowships after IM.

I do not see any feasible way to do allergy/pulm from anesthesiology, baring an IM residency.

If you are ultimately looking for a 9-5 outpatient job though, pain med can certainly fit that bill for some people. I get the sense that most people who like allergy like the lifestyle.

Allergists are IM or Peds trained followed by a 2 year fellowship in allergy/immunology. Whereas you could theoretically hang out your shingle to practice "allergy medicine", you would be eaten alive by malpractice lawyers if anything went wrong, malpractice coverage may be difficult or impossible to acquire, it would be difficult to get referrals, and insurances may not cover some treatments you might render because you lack the appropriate training. Other than that, it is a great idea!
