Ok, so I was just in the allopathic forum looking around and saw this amazing thread "list your annoyances." It was great, we all got them so I am opening this one up for us Podiatry people, even though I haven't officially started Pod school yet, we've all experienced annoyances in school, be it ugrad, postgrad or medschool. I'll start (and some if not most will be repeats from the allo forum, but wth a different spin so if there's any allo people reading this, contribute as you will):

1) Classmates arrive 30 mins before class starts in a huge lecture hall, choose to sit in the front row, write down and record everything the prof is lecturing about (even though the lectures are recorded and the notes are available before class in powerpoint) and continually ask questions throughout the lecture.

2) People w/ wheely backpacks. Never fails I am always walking behind them, then the bag hits a crack, comes off it's wheels, the person blocks the whole path so you can't get by, takes 3 minutes to get the bag back on track, proceeds to walk, then the same thing happens 50 feet later. GOD THIS ANNOYS ME!!!

Okay, here are mine:

(1) The people who constantly ask you how you did on an exam, just so they can tell you how they got an A. Ofcourse, they'll always throw in a comment, such as: "I can't believe I made a 98, I didn't expect to do that well."

(2) The people who after an exam always make comments like, "I know I bombed that exam. I bet I did just horrible." And then, every grade they get in the class is an A.

(3) Last but not least, are the people in college, who when I told them I was going to podiatry school, didn't say, "good luck with your future career." No, they said things such as, "why would you want to work with nasty feet?" "Ewww, feet!!!" Never mind that many of them are going into dentistry where you have your hands stuck in the most bacteria-rich orifice of the body everyday!!!

(1) People who show up late for lecture everyday. If you were late by 10 minutes yesterday, how about you leave 15 minutes earlier?

(2) People who have no pride in their career choice like Whiskers.

(3) I don't like people who act like they are too cool for school. I'm not that lucky to be in your presence.

Hey densmore22, I'm usually there about 30 before class starts. I don't record the lecture or write down everything the lecturer says. I might be one of those annoying people 😱

My biggest pet peeve of all is when a front row self-proclaimed super genius asks the doc lecturing:

"excuse me, but umm...is this going to be on the test?"

You freakin idiot! Its all important so learn it all! Not to throw stones here but it was usually the DOs that asked that question everyday. I never heard a pod ask. I think its because the DOs are more cut throat with eachother. For those of you going to DMU, you will see what I am talking about.

I doubt it. This is ridiculous. In my undergrad biochem course, we had the second biggest lecture hall on campus, it sat at least 500 people. When I would go (not that often) I would show up early because my bus dropped me off early, anyways, there was the same 5 or 6 people who'd practically run to the seats and sit down, start doing flashcards and then when the prof got there, asked questions non stop, they even delayed the start of class from time to time, then the prof would specifically say something wasn't going to be on the test and they'd continue to write verbatim on the subject, just a little overkill if you ask me-I know this cause I saw them in the library one time and sat next to them and they were studying stuff that the prof said he wouldn't test on and didn't. I doubt any of you is that anal, they were ridiculous!! It's funny though cause the average was pretty high, 3.1, and I over heard one of the say they only got a 3.3 so all that sucking up and wasted effort really didn't pay off, but yeah, anyways...That's just one of many pet-peeves I've got about school.

Another one-premed students who think they're better than other students and constantly degrade other students for not being premed

Oh, this should be fun:

1. I agree with those who stated their case with people who record lectures, postpne the start of class, etc.

2. People who ask why feet? Dirty, dirty feet. Then I wonder, why did they say that, are their feet nasty? How do they know about the feet of others.

3. People who find out that I'm going to pod school and ask if it was too hard to get inot med school

4. People who post threads that are like months old about why they went to DO school instead of staying with pod, wlthough they went to pod school, how they never felt satisfied. How could someone be that stupid and stay in school to accrue debt?

Haha

Yep, that sounds like Feelgood.

greetings all:

if i may, i would like to add my share of "annoyances"

recently, i went for an eye exam given by an optometrist O.D
striking up a light conversion, he asked me what i do and naturally, i responded that i am attending medical school. he asks me which one and i told him NYCPM. HIS RESPONSE WAS " you mean Podiatry School" i just looked at him

he then continued and began explaining that the education in pod school is inferior to "med school" and to top it off, he asked me if i chose podiatry because i couldnt get into med school. i told him that he was partially right and partially wrong. first i asked him what programs he considered "med school" his reply was M.D and D.O. then i asked him if there are any differences between the two. and he said there was a world of a difference and that M.D was far superior to D.O so my response was that how can there be a difference if both programs are under the holy "med school" filum. as you can imagine, he felt a bit silly. i further explained that he was partially right because i did not get into the M.D programs in the U.S but i did get into the D.O programs. his eyes bugged(he was probably thinking why would you choose pod over D.O) the icing on the cake was when i told him that i actually did get into an M.D program called Sackler ( located in Israel) and the he really let me have it!! how could i possibly choose pod over D.O and M.D. so i explained to him that i was very interested in doing surgery and i wasnt particular over anty specific part of the body. this is where podiatry is headed. also i have very"smarts " friends" a lot more intelligent than i could ever dream of being, that went to M.D schools- infact some to top ranking ones and couldnt get a surgery residency- so theyre pushing pills as internists etc.. i wasnt going to risk that. besides i have two children in school and my wife and i realzed it would be unfair to uproot them to anther country for 3-4 years and the come back to residency.

i left him one question to ponder. who ranks more holy pod or optometry. he promised me an answer when i come back to pick up my new glasses. to be continued......

I'm very eager to see how this ends.

Except I usually don't have flashcards and I give the lecturers back rubs and ask them why they are so tense? Do you want a reach around?

What amazes me is that someone would actually say things like, "pod school is inferior to med school" and "did you choose podiatry b/c you couldn't get into med school?" Some people have no class! I would never go up to someone and say, "Gee, are you doing what you're doing b/c you're not smart enough to do anything else?"

As of late, optometrists have gotten swelled heads about their profession due to the fact that optometry schools have become harder to matriculate into. I recently spoke with a friend of mine who graduated from optometry school and she bragged about how the avg. GPA at her optometry school is a 3.5 now and how its as hard to get into optometry school as it is med school. SO WHAT!!! If you look at the stats, just 5 years ago the avg. GPA at optometry schools was about a 3.2. Just b/c their standards have recently risen, alot of them think that they're the next best thing!

I'm glad that you chose pod school over MD and DO school if that's what you wanted to do. Good luck at NYCPM!
