Which program did you rank first? I think the consensus is that we wanted to do this poll here rather than on dermboard this year.

Even if you just read this board (and don't post), just create a screen name and enter your choice. It takes literally 3 minutes and this poll is anonymous.

**Note: Programs are generally grouped by state. Notable exceptions are the programs I've listed at the end, which I forgot in my initial entry. Also, I know a couple of these don't participate in the match, but I just included every program listed on FREIDA.

A few questions:

1. I see 111 programs listed. Is this the total number of programs available to U.S. allopathic applicants?

2. What is the San Antonio Uniformed Services program? Do you have to be on a military scholarship to apply to that program?

I have heard a rumor that Mayo tends to go down its list a ways. Anyone else heard this rumor? I heard it from some other applicants and have no really credible source for it, but from this small, non-randomized survey and from the past surveys posted by LongDong (thanks, by the way) it sure seems popular.

In past years on dermboard they've had more than 100 respondents. Given that this page has had ~1,200 hits, I'm guessing not everyone who has been here has participated.

If you care enough to read this page, participate. Even if you don't post, just make a screen name, it takes literally 2 minutes and everything is anonymous.

I join Palintology in encouraging people to answer the poll.

On the old dermboard, people were able to answer the same polls over and over again, in different ways if they chose, as there was no safeguard to prevent multiple postings by the same person. So the supposed ~100 responses on dermboard polls are completely unreliable as people notoriously faked being different people ("sockpuppeted") there.

Now there's a sign-in required over there, same as over here, and I guarantee you won't see more numbers answering on dermboard as here.

But of course, any SDN poll will have more functionality, in a more streamlined fashion. I never figured out their "number one ranking" on dermboard as the 100+ programs were all broken up into sets of "compare three programs" -- it was utterly confusing and finally meaningless.

Remember that your poll answers are completely anonymous. No one knows who answered what.

ALSO remember that I am going to be assembling match list results here on SDN as soon as the list comes out. I'm asking people to PM me with info, and I'll be posting it in an Excel spreadsheet. As soon as you find out, let me know, and I will work as fast as humanly possible to get updates out.

is there something special about mayo rochester that i just dont know about?

Mayo Rochester has a phenomenal program, great faculty/residents, lots of autonomy, many clinical research opportunities, inpatient service (one of 2 in country), assistants/secretaries to help with call backs/patient scheduling. Overall, amazing program.

One thing to keep in mind...they interview 2-3x more applicants than most of the other top programs. Not to take anything away from the quality of the program, but, by statistics alone, they will have more people ranking them #1.

i thought miami did too?

Miami and Mayo are the two programs with inpatient Derm services. Some places I interviewed at said they have inpatient Derm when they meant they have inpatient consults--they aren't actually the primary team like at the 2 M's

MD Anderson has it too. They are primary service, probably being double-boarded (IM, Derm) has something to do with it.

I'm pretty sure that the Derm residents at UT Houston do consults at MD Anderson but don't actually work much in the hospital with the attendings who will occasionally admit a patient to their private attending service. I asked this very specifically at my interview there, and that's the answer I got from them. Does somebody closer to the program know differently?

I believe Utah has an inpatient ward.

Utah's website says this:

The inpatient and consultation services at the University, Veterans and Children’s Hospital involve management of complex medical dermatologic diseases.

I'm surprised they call it an "inpatient" service. Can someone who rotated or interviewed there confirm that they really are the primary team for their complicated Derm patients?

It is possible they (Utah) do both... In fact, they say they do, "...inpatient and consultation...". I stand corrected on UW.

I am a little surprised Miami has only 1 vote (no, it's not mine). I thought their program was really impressive.

i thought it was too large

not the best interview day either
