hi guys,

i was just wondering how many schools out there are waiting to be accredited? i know that touro university is one.

and for students currently attending these schools, are you guys at all concerned at this point whether your school will eventually become accredited? after reading about the hawaii college of pharmacy, it is a bit of a concern to me to try to apply to school that are not yet accredited. do you guys feel this way?

It does and it doesn't, I think HICP was one school that was bound to fail from the beginning. Their class size was huge!

I am a bit concerned also. My brother-in-law actually went to HICP. He was devastated after having lost much time and money there. Oh, isn't UCSD's pharmacy school waiting to be accreditted also?

UCSD is a premier institution with a highly ranked MD School. Thus, they know what they're doing and should easily become accredited. Anyone, who is lucky enough to get admitted should go to UCSD unless they get admitted to UCSF.

Touro, another institution waiting accreditation should also get their accreditation when the time comes. They have I think one of the top 10 colleges of osteopathic medicine in the country, and in a few years I think they'll become one of the best Health Science Institutions in the country. They know what they're doing and their Dean of Admissions for Pharmacy is well known.

Loma Linda is also not accredited. However, they're pretty popular as well with a good Dental School and I think they have a good Osteopathic Medicine Program as well. They'll get their accreditation no prob.

Overall, when you guys are looking at a school, look to see if the school has other successful programs. If they do, then they should get their accreditation easily because they know what they're doing.

honestly...
i wouldn't go to a school that wasn't fully accredited...
but that's just me

we are aware.

The biggest thing that messed it up for HICP was that they thought they could skip the pre-cand. status and start accepting students. In my opinion, any school that has made the effort to acquire pre-cand. status before accepting students can be counted and trusted to finish through with the accreditation process. There isnt' a school out there that didn't fully acquire accreditation after receiving pre-cand. status and i'm confident that that's a statistic anyone who's been on this board for a while can confirm.

Schools aren't accredited until they graduate their first class. I'm not sure if ACPE looks at NAPLEX pass rates in regards to these schools, perhaps someone else with more knowledge on this topic can comment on this.
