Iv seen many chance me threads, so i guess ill throw my numbers in and hope for some replies....

Im canadian
My gpa as of 3rd year was a 2.6 but after 4th year i pushed it (a 3.5GPA that year) to a 2.90. Still very very low GPA. I just sent my app, and my friend told me of this website so i decided to acquire knowledge as to what my cchances are. My DAT scores were good, 21 across 🙂
I have awesome LOE from dentist, but not the best ones from my profs (most canadians i know lack good LOE from profs tbh, unfortunately). Would i need another year to bring it above the 3.0 mark? Or will i get an interview, a 10% chance?

I applied to Boston University, New York University, Tufts University, University of the Pacific, Temple University, University of Detroit Mercy, Case Western Reserve University, AT still, and meharry.

I thank u all for ur time and advice,

You should check out hte ADA official guide to dental schools and predents.com (when its up again) for more info, but id say you should definitely wait another year, especially since you were about to bring it up this year. Maybe try a post bacc or something to retake the Cs or Ds.

I would plan on continuing your education because your GPA is low. Good Luck this cycle!

So i need another year or 2 to bring it up to a 3.0, will that suffice? Or is just doing a masters at this point more advantageous?

hey thanks for that post, but i read it! No im not him....i want to know if my GPA (after a 3.5 4th year) thats now a 2.9 is enuf....under taker has a 2.63...

Yes i did take all 300 and 400 level bio and chem courses. Thanks for ur input, i was looking for that and i was hoping someone here knows of someone who got in with a 2.90 that was URM or doesnt have a masters.

I've got to be honest, I don't think URM status would save you at this point, considering that the admission averages are climbing and you're asking them to take a gamble on you when you only have a test score(which isn't held in the same regard as GPA) and a year of work to show that you're worth the risk.

It was always my understanding that URM status was like confectioner's sugar on baked goods. It looks really nice, but it's not going to make the pastry much better. If you have a subpar pastry, it's not going to make it acceptable.

I'd buff my GPA to make a solid upward trend and apply next year. A Master's would be more feasible than a post-bacc and it gives you something to fall back on if you don't get in.

Good luck with what you choose!

PS: Consider putting Howard and Meharry on your school list if you're a URM.

I see what youre saying, i get the hint that the odds are against me and im better off doing a masters and applying after that. And it seems, by ur words, a masters would be better than a post bac. Thanks a lot.

Thanks for those kind words, i think asking people "what are my chances" helps alleviate the pain of waiting "on fire", since we feel we stand no chance, or a very little one. Even getting a no chance as a response, it makes it less severe when we get rejections. Iv done some research and with your advice, i do stand no chance, so i applied for a masters as my school, thankfully the dead line hasnt passed and i dont need my GREs. If i dont get into that ill do a post bac, and reapply for dental and masters next summer. Bttw do you know if taking courses from another university (i go to western ontario and i might move to windsor and take courses at the US, at wayne state uni), its just a lot easier at wayne state and i think ill get higher marks, but i am going to try harder nonetheless, but will dental schools find that "fishy" or "look down upon it"?
thanks again.
