maybe we can put all these posts here in one spot. feel free to tack on your anxiety-induced "these are my stats, can i get in?" queries in this thread. hopefully those of you who've already matched or have other insight can help out the curious and stressed who choose to bare a little bit of insecurity here.
where might i be able to match: 1st tier, 2nd tier, anywhere?
undergrad- engineer; did research for a year after graduation
i attend a "top 20" med school
1st year - struggled but passed everything (P/F system), nothing notable.
2nd year - did well; good written comments, 1 honors (H/P/F system)
Step 1 - 80
3rd year - doing very well in clerkships, excellent comments on all rotations. passed 1st one, high passed the next 4 (on H/HP/P/F system). HP in neuro with excellent comments. No honors (sexual favors on residents are required for that. j/k 🙂
LORs - likely stellar. two attendings offered to write without my asking (1 neurologist, 1 IM attending). A second neurologist is also full of praise, I'll ask for their letter.
other - lots of research experience, published abstracts, involved in neuro independent study (involving philosophy/cognitive psych), student interest group, lots of extracurriculars (ranging from performing arts to community service), 5'11, enjoys long walks on the beach, etc...
