wowowow I just got screwd up sooo bad, I spend exactly 1 hr and a half typing this very threat expalining EVERY detail of my study plan, and when I hit submit, it told me to "log in again"... I did that and the whole page was gone OMGGGGG, I can't type that now, my hands are hurting...

but here are my scores...

PA - 20 (81%)
QR - 18 (86.6%)
RC - 19 (67.6%)
BIO - 21 (95.5%)
GC - 24 (98%)
OC - 21 (89.7%)
TS - 22 (98.3%)
AA - 21 (97.2%)

Overall GPA is about 3.28
Science GPA is about 3.7-3.8
I am nontraditional student with 2.5 years of post-bacc on a 50 credit run with a solid 4.0 (which explains why my science GPA is so much higher than my overall GPA)

typing a threat? must've been quite intimidating... i feel threatened just reading this small thing...

good job tho hoss - your scores are gonna put you in working dental, dentalWorks. DO WORK

Oh my, I was so pissed at loosing my THREAD lol that I just didn't pay attention to my spelling

Good, consistent scores. But AA 21 is 97.2%?

There is a good explanation in other threads about high percentiles. People aren't lying. The percentiles are based on a sample pool of applicants. So the pool is much larger in late June, through July and August ergo lower percentages. People who take later test or earlier in relation to the summer months will have skewed percentages b/c sample population is made of less test takers.

That finally makes sense. I was confused for a little bit about how I could have been in the 100.0th percentile. But there were probably a really small number of people taking it at the same time as i did. I guess taking the dat in fall can make you feel like you did better than you actually did (inflated percentile). Regardless, to the OP, 21AA is solid whatever the percentile may be. Congrats.

hah, I think 25 AA (if that's what you got) would probably be 100th percentile regardless. I may have seen a 26 somewhere, but 25 is the highest I can remember. But yea, as for a 21, it's really solid. Percentages don't really matter.

Wait just saw you got a 27!!! Good god. Did you have the test answers...

Lol what the hell I am looking at my printed sheet, printed today, right now and my 21 AA is 91.0%. Also, my QR of 20 is 87.2% (your 18 QR is 86.6%). This is weird maybe they do it by state or something.

Yes...I AM SMART COMPARED TO "MY GROUP" lol

I am VERY surprised that a 21 in biology was 95.5%, that's freaking nuts, that means that 95% of the students got less than 21 on this version of this test

I'm not suggesting that he/she might be lying. How do you know that scores are only compared to those who have taken the test in that specific time span? Unless ADA changes the DAT versions over the course of the year, shouldn't percentile be calculated from the results of everyone who took a specific test, regardless of date? By the way, I took the DAT in January and my AA 21 is 91 percentile. It's actually unfortunate for the OP that schools won't be able to see his/her percentile.

I've read this several places on the forum. I don't know the logistics of it, but it makes sense. Yea, it could be regardless of the date. Who knows.. I put this idea out there, but like everything else on this site, it's peppered with speculation.

Question:

At the bottom of the sheet, it says: "Before official DAT scores are distributed to dental schools, the DAT program audits all responses to items in order to confirm the accuracy of the scores"

How do I check my official scores then? I am not going to apply till next cycle (June 2010), so... does this mean I don't really know what my "official" score is until I apply next year?

Your predents link makes me wanna throw up :uhno: :barf:

And i dont think its possible for you to feel better than you actually did, i mean caaaamon

I don't think this is right. if you look through the threads, you can see that people who took the same exam, which you can tell according to them having the same reading passages, all came out with the same percentages, regardless of when they took it. some of these breakdowns were written 6 months or more apart. they definately don't update it frequently enough so that a 21 will be 97% in one month then 91% in another month on the same exam. 21s are usually ~ 92%, 22 96%, 23 98%, 24/25 99%, 26+ 100%, with most being +/- 1%
IF his 21 really is a 97%, which I doubt, then the only possible explanation I can think of is that he is taking a "newer" version of the exam, which means an older version must have just been recently "retired."

OP, what were your passages?

It's a theory. I'm not standing firmly by it. It's just weird how percentages fluctuate so much. Regardless the percentage, I'd be thrilled with a 21. My final conclusion based on the evidence, percentages are arbitrary

Why would I make up my %-ages? What possible good or benefit is that to me?

And to answer ur question, my RC passages were things Ive NEVER heard of before here on SDN, they were cancerous cells, the effect of physical exercice on mental health or mood ... and 3rd passage which was actually my first is... I totally forgot.

ALOT of my questions from the passages were linking ideas together between different paragraphs, man After I was done with the RC, I thought I was gonna get a 13, it was not easy. I dunon how I got the 19

I had the cancerous cells, piano, and cell communication.. hmmm

Oh I can tell u right now, my "forgotten one" was not piano nor the cell comunication, god dang it, I can't even remember what the passage was all about (lmao yeh RC my butt)

How did u find cancerous cells? I thought it was a little ridiculous, it was 15 questions and about 8 were easy give aways, the other 7 were hard

I REMEMBERED IT...

MY FIRST PASSAGE WAS NEUROTRASMITTERS LOLOLOLOL

is that the vell communication everyone is talking about?

I completely agree about the cancerous cell one. Half I found immediately and the other were either speculative or I swear hidden somewhere. My cell communication was the easiest of the three and dealt with signal transduction, release factors, g-proteins, AMP, ATP, etc.

Alright,

So Neurotransmitters passage is NOT Cell signals one...

for the record, the Neuro one, its pretty easy, 17 questions and I know I got 14 right right off the bat.... took me only 22 mints to finish it too

We had the same version (same exact reading passages.. look at my breakdown lol). We had the same bio and TS percentile too! It's ok, people doubted my percentile too... i dunno why it even matters to them.. So conclusion.. percentile went by test version. I guess our test version just isn't popular on this forum.

OMG... we did have the same test version...
your AA %-age is EXACTLY mine.

So I guess it does go by the actual test version and NOT all the tests combined. I swear I am reading your breakdown, and I felt the SAME away about your sciences break down.. I also felt I bombed the biology hard (I thought i was gonna get 18) cause most of the questions were either easy (I mean EASY - like you didn't need to study to answer them) and some were just strong reasoning skills cause you just don't study this type of material. I also thought my orgo had some ******ED reactions, I mean reactions that I didn't even see in destroyer lol, yeh it was that bad, again, VERY surprised with my 21.

HAHAHA REDEMPTION FOR YOU AT LAST MY FRIEND, THEY DIDN'T BELIEVE YOUR 97% THEN, BUT THEY'LL BELIEVE YOU NOW !!!!
