Hi everyone!

So I have 15 days till I retake my GRE general test. I've been studying for 2 months straight using the Kaplan book. I recently found a computer program on the ETS website that they put together for question prep. My QUESTION is... I don't seem to be doing very well on the Kaplan practice tests/CD computer moduals but I'm kicking butt when it comes to the ETS prep computer thing.
1. Is anyone else experiencing the same *phenomenon*
and
2. Who do I trust to measure my progress so far? Am I don't ok study wise if I'm getting all the ETS questions right or am I failing at life if I'm getting all the Kaplan questions wrong?

Let me know!!

:xf:

I found that my computerized tests were much more predictive of my actual test score than anything paper exam. No specific company/test more so than another.

ouroboro,

I also studied for the GRE with Kaplan brand materials, and found that they underestimated my actual ETS exam score on the real test by quite a bit. I also used the Barron's vocab book which was really helpful.

Anyone else have the same experience!? I HOPE SO! Thanks JP West that's really good news! 🙂

Chiming in on the accuracy of the PowerPrep software... my actual score was ten points off my PowerPrep score. I took all of the practice tests in the Barron's book, at various stages of test preparation, so those scores were less predictive. Good luck!

I only really took computerized practice tests, the paper one is not really scored like the real thing at all. My verbal scores always seemed to be higher on practice then the real test and lower on math then the real test, idk why that is really.

If the paper based practice tests are easier to get higher scores on, I wonder how people who take the paper version on test day score compared to those who take the CAT? You'd think paper and pencil examinees might be at an advantage, or perhaps that problem is controlled for by ETS.

On a slightly different note, has anyone compared their ETS paper based practice test scores with their CAT scores on exam day? Specifically with the following book? Practicing to Take the GRE General Test 10th Edition

http://www.amazon.com/GRE-Practicing-Take-General-Test/dp/0886852129

I am scoring around 1370 on these paper based tests but they feel easier than the Powerprep CAT you can download.

Can anyone confirm this discrepancy?
