I would say that you should retake the MCAT. However, your GPA could make some schools overlook the low MCAT, especially if they look at the top total score. Many people do get in with 27 or 28 on the MCAT, it is just that much harder.

I agree that you should retake, but only if you have the time to prepare and make sure that you break 30. Another similar score is worse.
:luck:

RETAKE THE MCAT

You are perfect in everything else...don't let this MCAT screw up your once in a life time chance to get into your dream school!!!

Unless you studied real hard and got your current score, I strongly recommend retaking.

I am guessing you will be applying for fall 2010 entrance? If so you have months to retake so I would say do that but even if you decide not to retake with your GPA and ECs you will most likely get in somewhere.

What happened on the MCAT? Were your AAMC practice scores higher than the actuals, or in line with them? How did you prep for the first test? After getting the first test score, what did you do differently before taking the second MCAT? Apply DO and instate public MD schools and you should have some luck.

I have a friend from Ohio who got in nowhere with an MCAT of 31 (and high GPA) last year, and got in everywhere in Ohio with his repeat score of 34 this year. Your ECs are way better though and might conceivably trump the low MCAT score. I agree with flip, though. Either do better on the MCAT or include DO schools when you apply.

I would go ahead and apply, but have a backup plan. That is, while you are in the process of applying, register for another MCAT, develop a new way to approach studying for said MCAT, and continue with your awesome ECs (because we all know that when you apply to med school you have so much free time!). I also agree with whoever said to apply to both DO and MD. In fact, I think this is a good plan for most applicants 🙂

I was getting 33-37 on the practice tests but honestly did not study much for either test. However, I graduated in 07, and I have not taken a science class since spring of 06, so I would definitely have to study now.

study really hard, retake it, ace it, get in to a lotta places. good luck. STUDY HARD!!
