I just recently got my MCAT score and it wasn't very pretty. 8 PS 8 V 8 BS (25M). I would reconsider taking it again but I can't really take more time off of work b/c I have to support my child.

I want to go to Western and wondering what are my chances with the following profile.

I just recently graduated with my Liberal Arts degree in Human Development with a cumulative gpa of 3.8. I have all A's and one B in the prereq classes including Biochem and Molec Cell Biology. I also have 3 W's in my transcript b/c I had to drop some classes due to work.

I have about 7 months of volunteer experience at the hospital (Telemetry, ER, Peds). I also shadowed a MD for about a year. I have about a year and a half of research experience where I wrote an Honors thesis on my research.
I was the vice pres of a pre med club on campus and was also the president of the honor society of my major.

I was in the Howard Hughes Medical Institute Honors program. I am also a member of Phi Beta Kappa, Phi Kappa Phi, and Golden Key.

I wish I could have more ECs but becoming a father at the age of 19 has taken up most of my time.

I plan to apply only to Western b/c I don't want to have my son move with me out of state.

I would like to thank you for taking the time to read this and any advice given.

HI! I think you have a great shot at a DO school. Go ahead and apply and see if you can get in this application cycle 🙂 I wish you the best and good luck!

Hi, a 25 is a bit low but you are strong everywhere else it seems. I can relate with being a father at a young age and I believe that having added responsibility and life experience is a great thing for DO schools. This doesn't mean people should go out and have kids to boost their app, scary thought, but I think the added maturity and responsibility of being a parent is a good thing. You will, of course, have to be prepared to explain how you will manage doing medical school and parenting together but have a good plan and support system and you should be good to go. I would apply with that resume if I was you and you should do well. Good luck,
Nate

25 or 24? 8+8+8=24
You have good experience so apply and see what happens. It is tough to only apply in one place though.
