Anterior Pituitary - 6 Hormones - Endorphines - Endocrine System on the DAT

There are 6 hormones of the anterior pituitary but I am confused by the endorphines.

The six hormones are

1. FSH
2. LH
3. ACTH
4. TSH
5. Prolacin
6. GH

But Kaplan sites the Endorphine has a pituitary hormone, and is in their Mnemoic FLAT PEG. So that would be the 7th hormone. Could anyone explain to me why the endorphines is not a pituitary hormone but is listed as one?


Also, how much stock does the DAT put in the Endocrine System?

As far as I remember endorphins have a hypophysial origin and the ones you have listed (1 through 6) don't have

a neuro-hypophysial origin (i.e. NOT synthesized in "paraventricular & supraoptic nuclei").

You seem to have looked at the wrong side of pituitary.
😉 I'd suspect endorphins are not even produced in pituitary even if some are released by the pituitary gland. Without looking at my references I'd say chances are these polypeptide-pain-reducing-hormones don't originate in pituitary.

Hypophysial means pituitary gland. So you are saying those 6 hormones are do not original for the pituitary gland?

Anterior = produces glands (directed by the hypothalamus)
Posterior = releases glands (produced by the hypothalamus)

I'm confused.

NO NO NO, that's not what I meant...
Look at the portal system...

The ones, that you have listed, are on the anterior side, you've been looking at the wrong side...

NO the posterior only secretes the hormones oxytocin and ADH and from what I recall endorphins are released by the anterior. The source you make be looking at where it does not include endorphins may have just omitted it to make things simpler as most of the time we don’t go over the mechanism in which the hormone works. Just my thoughts. Hope this helps.
 
The hormone ACTH is derived from a precursor peptide POMC (pro-opiomelanocortin) which is cleaved to a yield an endorphin, a melanocyte stimulating hormone and ACTH among others. This may be what the source is referring to.
